Oteres (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Oteres Swarm[edit]
Medium swarm of Tiny constructs, unaligned Armor Class 14 (natural armor)
Skills Engineering +1 Swarm. The swarm can occupy another creature's space and vice versa, and the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a Tiny Oteres. The swarm can't regain hit points or gain temporary hit points. Machinery Symbiosis. The swarm can move into a mechanical object large enough to fully contain it, melding with it. Nothing of the swarms presence remains visible or otherwise detectable by nonmagical means. The swarm can use its movement to leave the machine, and otherwise can't move or take actions. Minor physical damage to the machine doesn't harm the swarm, but uts partial destruction or a change in its shape (to the extent that it no longer fits within it) expels the swarm into the closest unoccupied space and deals 6d6 bludgeoning damage to it. The machine's complete destruction (or transmutation into a different object) destroys the swarm. ACTIONSSwarming Bites. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm's space. Hit: 14 (4d6) piercing damage, or 7 (2d6) piercing damage if the swarm has half its hit points or fewer.

Oteres, despite their diminutive size, are a crucial gear in the grand machine of Mechabutzia. Composed of the magical electro-mechanical substance known as vehelicium, these quicksilver beings possess a symbiotic relationship with the vast machine world they inhabit. Their bodies, glistening with mechanical enchantment, allow them to effortlessly traverse the complex labyrinth of Mechabutzia, slipping through the tiniest cracks and crevices with ease. They move in swarms through the maintenance tunnels and corridors, their collective intelligence guiding them to areas requiring their attention. Oteres have developed a unique language, a series of high-pitched modulated frequencies, that they use to communicate with each other and the machine world. This language, called "sonic schematics," allows them to understand and solve the intricate mechanical puzzles that Mechabutzia constantly presents. Despite their small stature, Oteres possess significant strength, allowing them to manipulate and repair parts of the machine many times their size. Their vehelicium bodies can morph into various tools needed for the task at hand, from gear-twist manipulator to helix penetrator, even complex devices like an electro-flux gauge or waveform scrutinizer. Their societal structure is as fascinating as their physical form. Oteres operate in a collective manner, with no apparent leader or hierarchy. They embody a form of hive mind, sharing information and collaborating on tasks with seamless efficiency. However, Oteres aren't just maintenance workers; they also play a vital role in Mechabutzia's defense. When threatened, they can combine their vehelicium bodies to form larger, formidable mechanical constructs capable of fending off intruders. Despite their integral role in Mechabutzia's existence, many mysteries about the Oteres remain. Why do they gather in large groups before certain machines? What is the purpose of their failed attempts? These unanswered questions add to the enigma of these fascinating creatures, making them a captivating part of the endless machine world of Mundus Dipathis Mechabutzia. |
