Orespringer[edit]

We shall not leave behind any souls in that eternal darkness.
—Rashad Hawfgilder, dwarven Orespringer

Orespringers are seen as angelic rescuers by miners - dwarven and otherwise - though in truth they rarely rescue the living, and only do so as a byproduct of arriving after cave collapses to soulcleave the bodies of those who died. They also come when subterranean undead horrors crawl into usable caves, a common occurrence as miners dig deeper and deeper to look for resources.

Becoming an Orespringer[edit]

Orespringers are drawn from among the elite Soulclaine of dwarven descent. Strength and Wisdom are their most important Ability Scores.

Class Features[edit]

Like all members of the Church of Modroben, Orespringers are expected to be neutral in most affairs (excepting only the defense of death, time and fate). Their class features should not be used except in the manner of church business and in direct self-defense. It is very rare for Orespringer powers to be used against anyone other than undead creatures or necromancers. All of the following are class features of the Orespringer:

Spellcasting: At first level and every level thereafter, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in your previous spellcasting class. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained.

Spells: To cast a particular spell, you must have a Wisdom score of at least 10 + the spell's level. Your bonus spells are based on your Wisdom. Saves to avoid the effects of your spells have a DC of 10 + the spell's level + your wis bonus (if any).

Cavesense: Orespringers possess Cavesense, the ability to intuit (without fail assuming there is no magical barrier) a three-dimensional map of any cave they are in. Thus, they always know how to ascend or descend, or how to return to locations. This does not grant them any ability to detect particular traps, structures or people, just the layout of the caves themselves.

Teleport Through Rock: At first level, Orespringers may Teleport Without Error once per day through up to 100' of rock. They may teleport back with a number of companions equal to their Wisdom modifier. Every level, he may teleport 100' farther and bring back two additional people.

At ninth level, Orespringers may also Teleport Without Error to any mountain peak that they can see.

Stone Shape: At second level, Orespringers may cast Stone Shape three times per day. Rather than having a 30% chance of moving parts not working correctly, Orespringers can subtract from that an amount equal to five times their Wisdom modifier.

Shape of the Bat: At third level, Orespringers can transform their ears into those of a bat, granting them sonar for one hour per level.

At six level, Orespringers can also turn into a bat for one hour per level.
At eighth level, Orespringers can turn others into a normal bat. This can only be done with the target's permission and last for one hour per level.
At tenth level, Orespringers can shapechange into a Celestial Bat once per day.

Holy Avenger: At fourth level, Orespringers receive a Pickaxe, Holy Avenger. This bonus only applies underground.

At seventh level, the Holy Avenger Pickaxe becomes a +5 magical weapon, This bonus only applies underground.

Elementrics: At fifth level, an Orespringer may spend six months in training and then begin taking one Kata per level in the Rellgah Earth Tradition of Elementrics.
