Wondrous Item (Orb), Artifact (Requires Attunement)

This fist-sized orb is made of a black metal and emits a faint hum that grows louder when its power is active. Though the orb’s origin is largely unknown, some believe it was forged from a fragment of the Shadowfell by a cult of shadow worshippers who sought to plunge the world into an eternal night, using its power to infiltrate and assassinate their enemies under its veil of darkness. When not in use, the orb is often stored in a box to prevent its darkness from spreading.
Eternal Dark. The orb is perpetually surrounded by a sphere of magical darkness that obscures vision within a 30ft radius. The darkness can’t escape a confined space or enter a space that the orb is not inside.

While attuned to the orb, you gain the following Benefits:

  • Devil's Sight. You gain 60 feet of Devil’s Sight, allowing you to see through magical and nonmagical darkness. If you already have Devil’s Sight, its range increases by 30 feet. Additionally, You know the locations of all creatures within the orb's darkness that are not constructs or undead.
  • Feign Light. As a bonus action, you can suppress the orb’s darkness, negating its aura for up to 1 hour. This effect requires concentration, and once you use this ability, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
  • Nightveil. As an action, you can double the radius of the orb’s darkness for up to a minute. This effect requires concentration, and once you use this ability, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
