Nothic Eye (5e Equipment)

Wondrous item (Crystal Ball), Legendary (requires attunement) A Nothic Eye is as large as a brain, it appear to be a crystal ball but is soft to the touch. It was carved out of the head of a fresh specimen and has been subjected to magic rites to preserve its powers. You can attune to this item the eyeball’s it glow with eldritch light and magic streams from it into your own eyes, you can gain the following effects for the duration of your attunement. Magic Sensitivity. You are able to see magic with you eyes (and only your eyes) as if under the ‘Detect Magic’ spell. Keen Sight. You have advantage of Perception (Wisdom) checks that rely on sight. Interrogative Gaze. You can target on creature within 30 ft. The target must contest its Charisma (Deception) check against your Wisdom (Insight) check. If you wins, it magically learns one piece of pertinent information (this can be name, allegiance or any other piece of information of the DM’s choice). The target automatically wins if it is immune to being charmed. Arcane Vision. Your eyes gain the power to innately cast the following spells without needing any material components: clairvoyance, darkvision, identify, scrying, see invisibility, true seeing. Nothic Curse. After about 1d6 + 2 days after initial attunement, the user will gain headaches as their sensitivity to magic become more and more acute. Over the next 1d6 days, magic will slowly become too ‘bright to be in the proximity of’. First magical items items become searingly bright. Progressively this will move to trinkets and scrolls. Eventually ambient mana itself glow to their vision. Nearing the end of the 1d6 days, even ambient mana is searingly bright and they will instinctively seek out a dark lonely place to curl up in. Over the last hour, the user will begin to undergo a strange transformation. Their skin will become greenish and leathery. Their eyes fuse both with each other and with their brain to create on massive organ in their skull which become bulbous an top heavy to accommodate. The muscles throughout their body and most notably their neck and torso be sinewy as all body fat is lost. Their limbs elongate and they will have enhanced flexibility. The victims fingers and toes then grow together to leave them with three digits capped with a razor sharp talon on each limb. Regardless of the subjects build previously it now has a toned wiry build. When the transformation completes, they de-attune to this item. The victim is now now a Nothic, decide with you DM if this is to be considered death. As a Nothic they gain the Nothic Stat block Removing the Curse. First, you will need to cast remove curse to end the attunement to the Nothic Eye. Once that is done, then you can use greater restoration on the affected player to end its affects. If the transformation has already begun you can cast resurrection, However, if they attune to the object, the transformation will restart after 1 minute. If the transformation is completed, a wish spell may be used to return the wearer to normal, as well as destroy the Nothic Eye entirely if the player wishes to do so. |
