Race Description[edit]
These elves, by some strange magic in their blood, have a special connection to the night. Some might say they are to Eladrin what Drow are to common Elves, only where the darkness of the Drow is the darkness of depth and death, the darkness of the Night Elf is the darkness of the infinite tapestry of the cosmos. They gain the ability to see in to the ethereal realm, and are comfortable in complete darkness, be it underground or in heavily shrouded forests. Night elves do not need to sleep, and often spend their time awake at all hours, constantly hunting or foraging. Night elves closely resemble Elves or Eladrin, and are close relatives of them, sharing many if not all of their traits. They live for about as long as Eladrin, but more closely resemble elves in appearance, other than the fact they tend to be grey, purple and blue in their features. Night elves are mysterious to ordinary elves, being strange in that they can wander the night endlessly and seem to appear from thin air. They are known to see in to extra dimensional realms, however they seldom use this power. Night elves are quite and stealthy, and often alarm other elves by their presence, who generally have otherwise extremely keen eyesight and hearing. All night elves possess the ability to become invisible at will, which is quite startling to the unitiated who seem to see Night Elves appear from thin air right before them. Night elves are also unusually quick, being able to travel long distances in a short amount of time and are not bothered by terrain or the environment. Their agility and stealth is unmatched by other elves, which makes them feared even by other elves.
While much is made of their otherworldly nature, Night Elves are fundamentally not much different than regular elves. Despite this, superstition beliefs exist among most elves towards night elves, and they are rarely seen in regular elf society for this reason. Night elves are sociable and generally polite, behaving like ordinary elves, but are often eschewed from society and they tend to spend much of their time in the forests rather than in civilization. They are generally expert hunters and scavengers and know how to live off the land and nature. Night elves tend to be restless, and the curse of being unable to sleep makes them anxious and constantly in need of movement, to the chagrin of many other races who tend to become exhausted by them. While night elves do get tired or exhausted, they are always pushing themselves to do more with their time. Night elf society tends to be very Tribal and they spend a good amount of time away from civilization. Their bodies tend to sport tattoos and runic symbols with spiritual significance, and each Night elf will receive a face tattoo on their right of passage in to Night elf Tribal society. Druidic leaders tend to lean Night-elf clans, said to have unnatural powers which connect them to the Fey World.
Play a Night elf if you want to be:
- A dark and mysterious figure
- Feared and respected by the majority of elves and other races
- Good at moving with stealth and in darkness
- To have features of many different types of elves blending their abilities
Physical Qualities[edit]
Night Elves have a range of skin tones that can be brilliant white or black as the void, but always on a grey scale, as though their very skin were made from the Moon or a space rock. Their hair can be any color, or even take on a variety of colors, mimicking the color of nebulas in which new stars are born. Their eyes, much like their hair, can be any color, but usually they appear as a dark blue/purple interrupted by specks of brighter colors, appearing like stars against the dark sphere. Night Elves are about as tall, if not taller, than your average Eladrin. They while not usually strong, can stand up to 7 foot, with females usually being slightly shorter than males. They usually sport the lean and limber build of their elf-kin, but are unusually tall and lanky. Some night elves have wild unkept hair, and can even have bushy beards unlike many of their elf brethren who tend to be clean shaven. They tend to have runes and tattoos etched over their body, each one carrying some kind of spiritual significance. Most Night elves are Tribal in nature, and spend a lot of time hunting or fishing. Most night elves spend quite a lot of time apart from civilization and their appearance often reflects this. Most night elves will have to undergo some form of right of passage in their Tribe, and will sport various face tattoos which commemorate this.
