Nether Scroll of Vox Arcanum (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Scroll, artifact
A Nether Scroll, one of the fifty Golden Skins of the World Serpent. It's said that the Scrolls described the creation of Magic and the truths of the Weave such that those who take a single glance from one may achieve masterful spellcraft. This particular scroll delves into the resonances and harmonies of magic, revealing the arcane symphonies that underlie the weave of reality. Why do bards' song and dance create such potent effects on reality? Now, you will gaze into the secrets of music.
Most Nether Scrolls can be found in the ruins of the Netherese Empire.
Comprehension of the Harmonic Weave:
This Nether Scroll is not a consumable magic item. It takes 30 days of concentrated study—at least 8 hours per day—to attempt to understand this scroll. After completing this study, you must make a DC 25 Intelligence (Arcana) check. If this check fails, you take 8d10 psychic damage and 8d10 thunder damage, and you can attempt the check again after another 30 days of concentrated study.
Echoes of Arcana: You gain one of the following benefits after either failing or succeeding the Arcana check, based on rolling a 1d4. If you roll a repeat of any of the benefits, nothing happens.
- If you rolled 1, your choice of Intelligence or Charisma is increased by 2, to a maximum of 22. You gain expertise in Performance.
- If you rolled 2, you can cast silence and shatter twice per long rest each without expending a spell slot.
- If you rolled 3, you can cast counterspell at one level higher against any spell which has a verbal component. You learn counterspell if you did not already.
- If you rolled 4, you gain the power to command the symphonies of magic. You may ignore the verbal components of your spells a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus. You may also cast command the same amount per day without expending spell slots.
Mastered Melody: Upon reading through the first chapter of the Vox Arcanum, your connection to the harmonies of magic strengthens. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, frightened, or stunned.
