ANBU Agent

ANBU Black Ops, now to be referred to as ANBU Agents, are the elite of the Naruto Shinobi World, and as such are a very difficult group to get into. Once allowed entry, the shinobi begins to gain skills and abilities aimed towards stealth and information. Only Shinobi may take this class, and can cross-class into this with no penalties.

Becoming an ANBU Agent

Only Naruto Shinobi may take this prestige class, and usually because of honor. Whether their own or their family's, honor drives a Naruto Shinobi to become an ANBU. Once you take 1st level ANBU, you must take all 10 non-epic levels before continuing Naruto Shinobi levels.

Class Features

ANBU class features are based around keeping the profile low and the efficiency high. Their masks also play a part in this, as they help with disguises in many ways. All of the following are class features of the ANBU Agent.

ANBU Sign Language: An ANBU Agent learns this as a bonus language. Used primarily to communicate silently between ANBU while they are on missions that require stealth.

Special Ninja Path: The ANBU Trains in a certain path(Ninjutsu or Taijutsu) for 10 levels. If he goes into Epic ANBU, he does not continue his study. These levels stack with the Second Ninja Path of Naruto Shinobi(by same author)

ANBU Mask: The mask the ANBU wear often conceal the real identity, as such when they take it off(or, in some cases, put it on), it gives a bonus to Disguise and Bluff checks equal to the current modifier(+1, +3, etc.)

ANBU Armor: ANBU wear special armor that is made of very light, flexible, but strong metal plates covering the chest, lower arms, and lower legs that are attached to otherwise normal clothing. They gain 2 ac, yet are still considered unarmored.

Sneak Attack: As Rogue.

ANBU Anonymity: An ANBU becomes able to lose their real person, and adopt a comnpletely new persona depending on the situation, from combat to asking for directions, giving a +5 competence bonus to Bluff, Disguise, and Gather Information checks. This bonus improves to +10 at 15th level(Epic ANBU).

ANBU Squad Leader: This ANBU has been allowed to lead up to two other ANBU members of which have a level equal to half of his level maximum. This does not stack with the leadership feat, if that's the case, use whichever "Cohort" is better. All ANBU followers must meet the criteria for being the prestige class and be from the same village as the player. (I.E. 7 levels Naruto Shinobi, 5 ranks in the above skills, 30 chakra min.)

ANBU Captain: The ANBU has become even more skilled and privileged, being allowed to lead 4 ANBU, 2 with three-fourths of the ANBU's level, 2 with half. This does not Stack with the leadership feat, if that's the case, use whichever "Cohort" is better. This replaces "ANBU Squad Leader" special ability. All ANBU followers must meet the criteria for being the prestige class and be from the same village as the player. Campaign Information

Playing an ANBU Agent

Combat: Fill in any missing gaps in the party. What? Melee went down? Use Taijutsu! Huh? Caster's pwnt? Go throw a few ninjutsu at them! Sure, you're not as powerful as either, but you can still hold your own.

Advancement: ANBU are only cross-classable with Naruto Shinobi(by same author)

Resources: Depending on the village, ANBU have a range of anywhere from supporting one another to fighting to the death on sight.

ANBU Agents in the World

ANBU are the hired super-elites. Hired out by big heavies to take out really "annoying" heroes or villans getting in the way of plans. Not cheap, either.

NPC Reactions: 99.99(repeating)% of the time, NPC's don't realize the person sitting next to them is an ANBU agent. That's exactly what the ANBU want, too.

ANBU Lore

Characters cannot research ANBU, because ANBU are very sheltered in order to keep village secrets from falling into wrong hands.

Former ANBU Agents

There are three classifications of former ANBU Agent.

1. Former ANBU (like Kakashi) who return to the fold of being shinobi.
2. Former ANBU who are dead.
3. Former ANBU who are missing nin and are actively hunted by other ANBU from their own village as well as any allied villages. This is a rare condition however, as each ANBU is hand picked by the Kage themselves.

ANBU in the Game

ANBU only join parties to finish the mission they are currently assigned. Once that is complete, they will leave the group unless another mission is sent to them straight away. Wether that mission be paid for by village or be inspired by a good heart, or a greedy heart, the ANBU always has a mission to fulfill.

Adaptation: Use this in junction with Naruto Shinobi(by same author) to create a very effective support character.
