Wondrous Item (head), rare (minor) (requires attunement)

The mask of identity was made to become a face for spies so they could blend in seamlessly, and also avoid the usual methods of extraction via divination magic. It comes in two fashions usually, either extremely intricate or extremely plain and blank. While wearing this mask, it functions as a typical disguise for your face. As a bonus action, you can mentally turn the mask's ability on or off. While it is turned on, the mask melds and becomes one seamlessly with your face. However, it is a face different than that of your normal face, becoming that of your chosen identity.

The chosen identity is a persona you create and store in the mask. You decide how this persona's features appear, how they talk, their mannerisms and even memories and habits. You can give this persona a new name and such. While this identity is active, you essentially become this person entirely, wiping off traces of your true identity. This persona counts a different creature entirely for the purposes of spells like scrying and locate creature.

Once a week, you can discard the stored chosen identity in the mask and craft a new one as part of a 1 hour ritual.

Making a Chosen Identity: These persona-storing masks were created to mimic how changelings create personas using their shapeshifting. One can get creative with how these things are, with wacky hair color and skin patterns, even. However, this change only works on the face and head, so it can appear jarring if the persona appearance goes too far. The mental facets that can be molded are also very colorful, with special quirks and strange interests inserted into a versatile blank canvas.
