Leed's Curse[edit]

Category: Binding Market Price: 400 gp
Time: 1 hour Key Skill: Arcana or Religion
Duration: Special

This infernal passage remains hidden within another text, waiting to curse the unwitting who read the words.

Over a century ago the human witch Jane Leeds created this infernal ritual, and payed an ultimate price for it. At some point after she first penned this curse her youngest son fell victim to it and murdered his brothers and sisters before fleeing into the night clutching his mother's grimoire in his new claws. This ritual allows the caster to place a curse hidden within text that exists on (or within) another object. The cursed text is invisible to the naked eye, but any who read the words that the curse has been placed on (ie. a passage in a book, inscription on a ring, text within a painting, etc.) will also read the curse itself. If anyone besides the caster reads the curse they will trigger it. The curse will remain intact forever until triggered, once triggered the curse vanishes and must be recast on the item. Those who trigger the curse are the target of an attack (see below). Those hit begin to transform into a Leed's Devil (also see below). This curse and its effects function like a disease (Endurance check after each extended rest), but can be removed with an appropriate level Remove Affliction ritual.

Leed's Curse
Level 3 Disease
The curse quickly strips away your former self, leaving a hideous beast in it's place.

Stage 0: the target recovers from the disease.

Stage 1: the target loses 1 healing surge.
Stage 2: the target loses 2 healing surges.
Stage 3: the target gains the Leed's Devil template.

Check: At the end of each extended rest, the target makes an Endurance check if it is at stage 1 or 2.
8 or Lower: The stage of the disease increases by 1.
9 - 12: No change.
13 or Higher: The stage of the disease decreases by 1.
