Lati

Physical Description

A Latios and Latias Source

Latis, while descended from dragons, are much more avian in shape compared to other dragons. They have an aerodynamic body, flowing slowly into a thick neck with jet-plane wings on their backs and glass-like down feathers covering their body - a single color (or two if a latius) from below the shoulders down, and white along the arms, the top of the body and the neck and head, but with a wedge-like shape of the single color which starts at their nose, and goes against their eyes and to their triangular ears on the top of their heads, which itself has a circular section on the forehead which is white. latioses have either blue or green as their feather color, while latiases have either red or yellow. Latiuses have a split of feather colors down the middle, with one side being a latios color and the other side being a latias color. All latis have a delta symbol on their chest which is of a latias color if they are a latios, a latios color if they are a latias, and a latius has their latias/ latios colors swapped over for the delta. They do not have legs, instead of hovering.

Mega latis change the colored parts of their body to either purple or dark green. Horns grow from the side of its head and run along its jaw. It loses the wings on its back and similar but larger wings attach to its lower arms, normally held in a level position. The delta shapes now mark the forward point of its wings instead of its chest. It grows thin legs out from its body.

History

Not much is known about the history of the lati race except for the fact that their ancestors vanished from the world after an unknown threat almost wiped them out, and most latis who leave to see the wider world either don't know about that past or don't want to talk about it. Still, it is said that when the Original Soul Dew was created, the latis were forever changed, losing most of their draconic abilities in the process.

Society

Latis tend to live in a self-contained community and are almost always seen in pairs, be it brother and sister or as mates - the bond between two latis being a strong link which can only be broken through death. However, some latis tend to be highly curious about the world around them, and not just Lationa - some of these may leave the safety of Lationa to explore and to sate their curiosity. Even so, latis do not have any relations with other races, and while those outside Lationa may be curious about them, they tend to keep to themselves. They are only able to breed with other latis, but will almost always give birth to twins - one latios, one latias. On the very rare occasions where this is not the case, a latius may be born instead.

This place is not found on a map due to the magic of the Original Soul Dew but is full of lakes where the cities of Lationa tend to be seen. Latis who venture out into the wilder world tend to stay near water, but some have ventured into areas where there is little water. They also do have some form of religion, but only in the fact that they dedicate themselves to the Original Soul Dew - and one of the acts a prospective prince or princess must do to lay an official claim to the throne of Lationa is to create a new Soul Dew linked to them and offer it to the Original Soul Dew - which, if accepted, turns it into an Artifact Soul Dew. Other than this, they do not tend to worship any deities or pantheons.

Soul Dews are often used as a focus for a lati when using spells, and the ritual to make one is a major milestone in any lati's life.

Lati Names

Lati names sometimes change depending on the situation. However, usually the first words ‘spoken’ to one’s twin is their name due to the bond between them. When a pair mates, they may opt to change their names to be more linked, and once a Prince or Princess is accepted by the Original Soul Dew, they too would change their name to a more regal sounding one.

Lati Traits

Legendary draconic pokemon that fly through the air at incredible speeds.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2.
Age. Latis reach maturity after about 25 years. Due to their reminiscent draconic blood, they won't die of old age.
Alignment. Latis tend to be chaotic good due to their free-spirited nature and curiosity along with a good sense of right and wrong. Although those in Lationa tend to be more lawful than those who leave, and some latis have known to do evil deeds.
Size. Latis stand between 4 to 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 10 feet.
Lati Adaptation. After changing from dragons into the latis known about today, they gained resistance to their own powers, but in return don't cope well with the cold or dark powers. You have resistance to psychic damage and you have disadvantage on saving throws against effects that deals necrotic and/or cold damage.
Trick of the Light. You've learned to refract light to appear invisible. You can cast the invisibility spell on yourself once with this trait, requiring no material components, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest.
Levitate. Using your psychic abilities, you can float a few feet above the ground. This allows you to gain a flying speed of 30 feet. However, you can fly no higher than 5 feet and when you are reduced to 0 hit points you stop flying. Starting at 5th level, your increased mastery of psionic abilities allows you to fly higher than 5 feet.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
Subrace. Your subrace depends on your birth. Choose one subrace from the following: latias, latios or latius.

Latias

This subrace of lati is the female twin and usually portrayed as the sweet side of the race, being timid and caring. Latias has the unique ability to appear as a human, using this trickery to explore places which are otherwise dangerous for her to go to. She can also manipulate light in a myriad of ways to change her visual detection.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.
Human Form. You've adapted to mimic humanoids and take on their form. You can cast the disguise self spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short or long rest. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the alter self spell once with this trait but limited to only the change appearance option and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a short or long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. Additionally, when you cast either of these spells, you can appear in the body shape of a human commoner, allowing you to more easily blend in among them.

Latios

Rumored to be the stronger, more intelligent of the two lati counterparts, latios, the male twin, will often protect their latias mate or sibling to the death.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Luster Purge. You can use your action to exhale a ball of light energy at a point you choose within 60 feet of you, which then explodes into a burst of light energy. Each creature in a 5-foot radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Intelligence modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 radiant damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. You can't use this feature again until you complete a short or long rest.
Sight Sharing. As an action, choose one target that is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically for 10 minutes. Additionally, as an action, while you can communicate with them telepathically, they can see through your eyes and hear what you hear until the start of their next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that you have. During this time, they are deaf and blind with regard to their own senses. You regain use of this feature when you complete a long rest.

Latius

The rarest of the lati subraces, a latius is a hybrid of the two, although while they don't have the same skills as their other subraces, they make up for it with their speed.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence or Charisma score increases by 1.
Nimble. You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.
Swiftness. You can take the Disengage action as a bonus action on each of your turns.
Sudden Strike. Immediately after you take the Dash action on your turn and move at least 20 feet towards a creature, you can make one melee attack as a bonus action against that creature.

Racial Feat

Mega Evolution

Prerequisite: Lati
You can change your form to draw out the draconic powers lying latent within you. On your turn, you can mega evolve as an action. While mega evolved, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your flying speed increases to 60 feet.
  • You have resistance to fire and lightning damage.
  • Once on each of your turns, you can deal extra psychic damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra psychic damage equals your level.

This form lasts one minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious. You can also change back on your turn as an action. You regain the ability to mega evolve when you finish a short or long rest.
