One of the many evolutionary dead-ends of the kroot, the kroot hound is a ferocious pack hunter that has struck fear into the hearts of many an individual. Even a lone hound is blindingly fast, almost reaching the speed of a horse—fast enough to run down your average human. To face a pack is to face a flood of slashing claws and hungering maws that drag down even the largest foes and rip them to shreds.
Hounds are almost always found alongside the kroot as both sentries and typical hunting hounds. The quills extending from their heads allow them to sense even the stealthiest of foes, and they typically shriek loudly upon detection before attacking the hapless foe. They can also be trained to emit a quieter trill so their handlers can set up ambushes and raids. As hunting hounds, they are left to run free if the kindred is operating alone. If the kroot are operating alongside allies, then a handler is deployed with the hounds to ensure grisly incidents do not occur. However, such a handler always runs the risk of the hounds turning on them, for they have a notoriously bad temper.

Tactics. Hounds are often let loose by the kroot to run down a fleeing foe. They open up by closing with the foe, perhaps slashing them with their claws if necessary, before dragging them down with their powerful jaws and converging on the fallen. They prefer to drag down the largest, bulkiest foes for consumption. In the rare event that more than half the hounds are wiped out, they elect to flee to their handlers.
