Kenjutsu Student [Lesser Style]

You practice an ancient martial art, with a key emphasis on the use of the Katana or Kanabō.
Prerequisite: Fighter, Ranger, Warlord or Barbarian; proficiency with the Katana (4e Equipment) or Kanabō (4e Equipment)
Associated weapons: Katana
Associated classes: Fighter
Benefit: You gain a +2 feat bonus to Perception checks. Kenjutsu masters emphasize readiness before a battle, to detect an enemy and strike quickly, using the proper footwork and battlefield awareness to prepare before a battle, rather than strike with the weapon alone.
When you hit an enemy with a power associated with this feat while wielding a Katana or Kanabō, it also takes a -1 penalty to all defenses until the end of your next turn. In addition, you may use any of the powers associated with this feat as a melee basic attack. You have such substantial training and skill that you can use these powers as if a rote action. You can perform certain trained attacks reflexively without needing extra focus.
Associated powers: Reaping Strike (fighter, PHB1), Careful Strike (ranger, PHB1), Wolf Pack Tactics (warlord, PHB1), Stalk and Strike (Barbarian, Heroes of the Feywild)

Note: The Berserker qualifies as both a Martial and Primal character.
