Jiralhanae[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Brutes are potentially the closest species in the Covenant biologically, essentially being physically adept primates. They are generally far larger than humanity, however, likely due to their homeworld Doisac's high gravity. Also unlike humanity, they are exclusively carnivores, with some going so far as to eat those they slay in battle. Their skin is tough and ranges from black to light gray, while the coarse fur that covers a majority of their body takes shades of brown, gray, and occasionally white.

History[edit]

Despite their pension for battle, the jiralhanae have a history of intelligence, culminating in a short escapade into space travel. However, similar to the rest of their history, the clans of the jiralhanae hastily plunged into another civil war, reducing their society to ash. When they were discovered by the Covenant, they were quickly crushed, as their primitive radios and rockets couldn't compare to the Covenant’s plasma weaponry and near instantaneous teleportation. Once they became a vassal race, they quickly rose through the ranks as useful tools of the prophets, only being outranked by the sangheili.

Following the destruction of the first Halo Ring at the hands of the Master Chief, a tragedy the majority-sangheili fleet commanded by shipaster Thel 'Vadam failed to stop, the effectiveness of the sangheili was called into question, allowing the brutes to replace them as the right hand of the prophets shortly before the destruction of the Covenant as a whole.

Following the Covenant's destruction, much of the surviving jiralhanae were brought under the banner of the Banished, an army of galactic raiders seeking to conquer the galaxy just as the Covenant had before them, but without the religious bindings. At the Banished's height, they were able to nearly take control of the Ark, their impudence during the Created uprising earned them Cortana's ire. Doisac was put under martial law by the Guardians and their chieftain, Atriox, was called before Cortana. When he defied her, Doisac was destroyed, with what remained of the Banished attempting to find a new home on Installation 07.

Society[edit]

Before their inclusion in the Covenant, the jiralhanae lived in a constant cycle of civil war. They lived in tribes ruled by the strongest. Their rule was unquestioned, save for constant challenges for their power. After they were absorbed into the Covenant, they became a vassal race. Despite ranking closely with the sangheili, they held no seats on the High Council and were not permitted to serve on the honor guard. Within the Banished, jiralhanae society returned to their cultural roots, though with much greater reverence for a strong leader.

Jiralhanae Names[edit]

Jiralhanae names are genderless, and often resemble those of the romans, though this is purely coincidental. They receive two names, one is given at birth, often resembling the name of one of their parents. This is then replaced by one of their own choosing when they prove themselves in combat.

Names: Mrynozis, Hysasion, Facius, Bygyius, Bracktanus, Atriox, Cretus, Decimus, Gargantum, Tartarus.
