Inkling (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Inkling[edit]
“ | Transdimensional. Androgynous. Identical. Odd. | ” |
Appearance[edit]
Inklings are a bit odd looking. They are humanoids, but with larger hands and feet than the average human. The most distinguishing feature of inklings is their bodies, which appear to be shrouded in darkness. To look at them is like looking into a void, such as a pitch black closet, with no lights, not able to see anything... They have bright glowing eyes, often a stark red, green or blue, but sometimes pink, lime green, or bright orange. The fingers of inklings are pointed, with bristled tips. Their feet curl upwards into a single point. The top of their heads, rarely seen, zig-zag upward to a point, like a strange hat, but will take the form of whatever headgear they wear.
Inklings prefer to be completely covered by clothing, exposing only their eyes. They like to wear large, colorful outfits defining their profession.
History[edit]
Inklings are native to the Shadowfell, but migrate to the material realm through shadow crossing to observe the common races and their daily lives. As they step into the material world they adopt a small androgynous body to experience what it is like to live inside a corporeal form. They are lonely creatures formed of the dark, supposedly from the shadows of those who walk through into Shadowfell. From their shadows, a small portion is kept even after they leave the realm, materializing into an inkling. Inklings are thus named as an inkling of the shadow from which they were born. They are lonely, yet desire to be more of a whole, again harkening back to their fragmented birth.
Society[edit]
When inklings enter another dimension, they either intentionally spawn inside a set of clothes, or immediately search for a suitable outfit. After acquiring clothing, many inklings go out by themselves to experience living on their own or with a group of natives. While uncommon, It has been known for inklings to live together in groups together. While in these groups, inklings are known to show very warm displays of silent camaraderie. These are known to be tightly knit groups, which are speculated to cure the loneliness inherent in inklings. Inkling groups are known to be very friendly and nomadic, moving together. They remain very limited in access to outsiders however, and are still hard to approach.
