Howitzers bridge the gap between field guns and mortars, being capable of both direct and indirect artillery fire. Heavy howitzers typically fire projectiles between 300mm and 400mm, and are and are almost exclusively either immobile or mounted on warships, though some attempts have been made to mount them on rail cars. When used for indirect fire, the howitzer can hit targets behind cover.

Before it can be fired, the howitzer must be loaded and aimed. It takes three actions to load the weapon, two actions to aim it, and one action to fire it.

Direct Fire: Ranged Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, range 8/16 miles, one target. Hit: 275 (50d10) piercing damage. Hit or miss, each creature within 120 feet of the target (including target) must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw, taking 134 (25d10) bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. A howitzer has the Armor Piercing (-5) property.

Indirect Fire: Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, range 16/26 miles, one target. Hit: 275 (50d10) piercing damage. Hit or miss, each creature within 120 feet of the target (including target) must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw, taking 88 (16d10) bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. A howitzer has the Armor Piercing (-5) property.
