Glossary of Terms (Payday Supplement)

The following page is here to outline and explain every bit of terminology that is used within this Supplement. Some of the terms may be concepts that come from the Payday franchise, and some of them may refer to mechanics exclusive to this Supplement. If there's any word you don't know, see here, also, maybe the normal glossary may have what you're looking for.

A contractor is usually a very rich person who hires the player characters to commit a heist. They are the ones who tell them where to go and what to get, and how much money they receive upon completion is dependent on the contractor. The players' handler may also be a contractor.


Any kind of confinement, not the nice kind of custody. Mechanically, when a player is in custody, they are out of the fight, and most often out of the scene. They can still take actions to try and free themselves, but it is much more efficient for their gang to but them out. Detailed here.

Damage Reduction[edit]

The amount a character reduces any incoming Damage by. Damage can be reduced to 0 this way. Also see Armors and shaken.


A player who is at 0 hit points. See here for rules regarding downed players.

Down / Downs[edit]

How many times a player has been downed since they last left custody, long rested, or used a doctor bag. When this number reaches 4, you instantly enter custody.


The shortened version of Damage Reduction.


A group of criminals. Both in-universe groups may be called gangs, such as the Payday Gang, but also all the players' characters may be referred to collectively as a gang. The "rest of your gang" is the rest of the players at the table.


The handler is the person who runs a heist from the shadows. They are the ones pulling the strings and arranging everything, from which bank tellers are working that day to who's gonna come in the escape vehicle. The GM plays (and could even role-play) the role of the Handler, telling characters information about the mission and the cops. Certain contractors may wish to become, or help with being handlers for the missions they're contracting.


The player characters. In this setting player characters are criminals, and their favorite crimes involve getting a lot of money from well-protected ares. They commit heists, so they are called heisters. NPCs that are both allied with and working against the players may be heisters, if they fit the description.


The name of a new Intelligence skill in the Payday Supplement that relates with a character's specialized heister information, as well as general knowledge. See Information.


Someone currently employed or who has civillian access to a high-security establishment, and is willing to cooperate with your gang. Insider will help with opening gates. and leaving windows open, but they won't stick their heads out for you. And they don't stick around when things get heated.


The franchise this supplement is based off of. All rights go to Starbreeze studio. A payday is also a day in which wages are paid. Our gangs are self-employed, they make their own paydays.

Payday Gang[edit]

A legendary group of heisters who rose through the ranks and turned the world upside down with the stunts they pulled. At their biggest they had 22 concurrent heisters. They had a legendary, enigmatic, but still friendly-seeming handler, who was only known as "Bane"

Plan A[edit]

The way your Handler, your Contractor, and everyone they're working with, would prefer you finish a heist. Plan A involves not raising alarms, and getting all the objectives done without alerting any guards or scaring any civilians.

Plan B[edit]

The way you want to get it done. Plan B is guns blazing, no holds barred action. It's waves and waves of cops, against your crew. Do what you came there to, and leave in one piece to reap the rewards.

Plan C[edit]

If you manage to fuck up what you were there to do, you might enter Plan C. Plan C is usually just "Damn it everyone! Let's run away and cut our losses. we'll get 'em next time!", but some contractors or handlers may have planned for ways in which you could still salvage the job. At a cost, of course.

Revive / Reviving[edit]

Helping a downed player up, usually by using an action and rolling a DC 10 Charisma (Medicine) check.


A new condition introduced in the Payday Supplement, when you are shaken you do not recieve any Damage Reduction from your armor. More on the shaken condition here.


The name of a new Intelligence skill in the Payday Supplement that relates with a character's ability to work with machines and electronics. See Technology.
