Devil Hunters, Hybrids and Fiends cast into Hell, source [1] |
One of the most ancient and inaccessible of dimensions, Hell, predates many of the known worlds and exists as a crucible of primal fear. Unlike most realms, Hell is the origin point of Devils, and acts as both birthplace and afterlife for their kind. When a Devil perishes on Earth, it is reborn in Hell, and vice versa—an eternal cycle of suffering and fear. Though the full nature of this dimension remains unknowable, three Devils—the Hell Devil, the Falling Devil and the Aging Devil—are known to have the ability to traverse the boundaries between Earth and Hell.
Hell is divided into regions that defy consistency, but several are known through rare accounts. One is a deceptively serene meadow, covered in grass and flowers and dotted with low hills, above which float countless parallel doors suspended in the sky—each a potential portal or prison. Other regions of Hell are stark, empty expanses, oppressively silent and absent of color or light.
Creatures that enter this dimension are overcome with overwhelming sensations of dread and despair. When a non-Devil creature enters Hell, and again at the beginning of each hour spent here, it must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion and suffer the frightened condition while in this realm. Devils and Fiends are immune to this effect.
