Elemental Manipulator[edit]

The Elemental Manipulator is, as the name says, is one whom has managed to manipulate a spell into a number of elemental attributes.

Becoming an Elemental Manipulator[edit]

Generally a Wizard, sorcerer, or similar pursue this class when they wish to master their elemental manipulation capabilities. Generally not much for other classes would fit unless they were some sort of elemental/dragon paragon class mix and they simply wished to utilize this admixture to its fullest, or similar. Whatever ability score was vital for casting spells for their base class is important for the prestige class, along with a solid dexterity/constitution score for a solid defense.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Elemental Manipulator.

Spellcasting: At all but 5th and 10th level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming an Elemental Manipulator, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Ease of Admixture: At 1st level, an Elemental Manipulator learns to use the feat 'Energy Admixture' without having to increase the spell slot level the spell would otherwise occupy. The Elemental Manipulator can also from this point on admix any element he can or learns to substitute via energy substitution (Ignore this part if the DM allows for such with a single energy admixture).

Admixed elemental summon (Sp): At 2nd level and every 3 levels thereafter, the Elemental Manipulator gains the ability to summon an elemental with an energy admixture applied to it. At 2nd level, 1 small elemental. At 5th level, 1 medium elemental or 2 small elementals. At 8th level, 2 medium elemental or 3 small elementals. This feature can also be used with the appropriated 'Summon Monster' spell without using this feature up. Providing the summons is an elemental or has an element subtype. This effectively enables more admixed elementals to be summoned.

Energy Substitution At 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter, gain an additional 'Energy Substitution' element as per the feat. Energies can also include positive energy, negative energy, and force (if not already allowed by the DM or already selected). If no energy substitutions can be picked for some reason, take a bonus metamagic feat instead.

Assume Form (Su): At 4th level the Elemental Manipulator can assume the form of either an elemental, or an admixed elemental of the same size or smaller once per day. An additional time per day is gained every 3 levels.

Energy Subtype:At 10th level, pick 3 energy subtypes that would normally be harmful to the Elemental Manipulator that you have for use with energy substitution. The Elemental Manipulator becomes those energy subtypes and gains immunity to those energies but vulnerabilities to opposed energy types. The only exception being if two of them are opposites. This would also mean technically gaining the negative energy subtype would receive half again on cure spells, which would be beneficial so long as cure spells actually heal you. Same could be said with undead casters that take positive energy and are healed by negative energy.

Ex-Elementalist[edit]

It would require a wish spell or permanant level loss to lose levels/features of this class. Otherwise once an elemental manipulator, ALWAYS an elemental manipulator.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing an Elemental Manipulator[edit]

Combat: Versatile Spellcaster for the most part. Being able to treat any spell with any element. Even a sort of divine replacement if positive energy is a known energy substitiution.

Advancement: Most any arcane spellcasting class/prestige class that would tie into this would do. Even racial paragon classes.

Resources: Resources are more on a personal basis while Organizations can vary depending on the campaign setting.

Elemental Manipulators in the World[edit]

Spellcasters that are needed for specializing in elemental manipulation would work well (no brainer)

NPC Reactions: Wouldn't be much different than a spellcaster, as such treated the same as a Wizard or Sorcerer or similar.

Elemental manipulator Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (Arcana) can research Elemental Manipulators to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (Acrana)
DC Result
11 Elemental Manipulators have a variety of elements they can substitute and even admix.
16 Elemental Manipulators can summon and transform into Elementals of the element of which they tamper with.
21 A particular Elemental Manipulator including last known location and latest deed.
26 Having exposed themselves to varying forms of energy has caused the very life essence of an Elemental Manipulator to become admixed with raw elemental power. What elements are admixed depends on the selections an Elemental Manipulator makes.

Elemental manipulators in the Game[edit]

Elemental manipulators would be versatile spellcasters for hire. This could be anything from a simple enchanter with an array of elemental enchanting abilities to a warmage (Class found in Complete Arcane) whom has decided to be more flexible with his spells in the aspect of what kind of energy gets thrown at an opponent on the battlefield. If you can think of a reason for needing an individual with the ability to manipulate the elements, this class would fit the bill.

Adaptation: Campaigns featuring elementals or anything involving the base elements of magic energies would do well with this class.
