Dragons as a Race[edit]
See also: Dragon Paragon Racial Class.
This race is based on the standard of Chromatic and Metallic Dragons. Other dragons may be used to the discretion of your DM.
As a note, this race is best used in conjunction with the "Draconomicon" of 3.5th edition, which has all the pertaining information to each coloration of dragon, and the special characteristics of dragons. (It is also where I discovered the ability for Dragons to wear Armor, cloaks, rings, gauntlets, greaves, and other such items in the style of a horse.)
Personality[edit]
A dragon's personality varies from creature to creature, usually the coloration of their scales is an influence upon how they act, but all dragons are known hoarders of some kind of wealth or physical effect. They are known to stay close to whatever climate they are most personally comfortable within, but some venture out into the world with good or bad intentions.
Physical Description[edit]
Dragons are scaled reptile-in-appearance creatures with an array of horns, wings, legs, and a tail. Though no one dragon is the same as another, they all share common features amidst their broods. All dragons are typically posessing of two functioning eyes, ears, four legs tipped with four sharp claws, (standardly) functioning wings, and a tail usually formed well enough to work as a club or blade. Dragons differ in scale coloration, which also effects their appearances.
Relations[edit]
Dragons as a race are mistrusted amidst the humanoid races, very few, however, seek to anger a large enough adult without promise of victory. Most dragons can expect to be watched constantly, if not attacked at first sight. Dragons start out at Unfriendly with all other races not of the Kobold, Dragon, or Dragonkin race, or type. Coloration also affects relations. Metallic Dragons are more tolerated than their Chromatic kin.
Alignment[edit]
Alignment is primarily affected by the coloration of a dragon, though it is rare, some dragons -do- stray from their paths for their own. But, it is exceedingly rare for a Chromatic Dragon to be Good, or Lawful, and a Metallic Dragon to be Evil, or Chaotic. However, Chaotic Good Metallic Dragons, and Lawful Evil Chromatic dragons exist. A slightly more common amount of Neutral dragons exist, however.
Lands[edit]
The lands of dragons depend entirely upon their coloration of scale. For example, Red dragons enjoy the sweltering, death-causing heat of (non, or active) volcanoes and mountainous regions.
Religion[edit]
Dragons have a seperate pantheon of their own, though some choose the path of an athiest, agnostic, or some other strand of strange religion, if rarely.

Language[edit]
Dragons speak Draconic as their native language, but most also know Common. Bonus Languages include any Languages save secret languages like Druidic. The dragon gains no magical, or special bonuses from special languages it may know.
Dragons recieve Draconic and Common as Automatic Languages at 1st Level, and their INT/CHA modifier (As according to higher modifier) in Bonus Languages.
Draconic was the predecessor (supposedly) for all languages, but Dragons as a whole are often very arrogant, vain, and some even seek knowledge. More intelligent Dragons gain or steal whatever languages they can.
Names[edit]
Dragons as a whole don't tend to acquire names from any given source. Some are given names, some give -themselves- names, and some go by whatever fancy strikes them at the time. A Dragon's name, however, tends to be crude and consistant with it's own personality. However, as dragons age, their names become more complex, and even harder to pronounce.
Examples:
Male Names- Malevon, Suur, Calneris, Aknolan, Baelnaul
Female Names- Surassa, Lebeceil, Namerra, Vaelnura, Zahnelia
Surnames- Acid-Drinker, Firebreather, Copperscale, Silvertongue, Marshfang
Racial Traits[edit]
- +2 Constitution: Dragons are hardy creatures, but they are not often prone to conversation.
- Dragon: A dragon comprises it's own type, while it's coloration affects it's sub-type. A Dragon gains Sub-Type of an energy type as presented by it's color, and gains immunity to that energy type, but takes more from the opposing sub-type. It does not gain any other bonuses from the sub-type. (Example: A Red Dragon takes more damage from Cold spells while taking no damage from Fire or Heat style spells.)
- A dragon gains natural immunity to Sleep, and Paralyze effects, but suffers a Charm spell as normal for a failed save.
- Medium: A medium-sized dragon gains no bonuses or penalties due to size.
- Dragon base land speed is 30 feet: Fly speed 30ft.
- Darkvision out to 60 feet.
- +1/2 level Natural Armor Bonus for all basic dragon types.
- +2 Bonus to a skill (dependent upon coloration). Dragons as a whole garner different skills as referenced by their habits, and personalities. If this skill is not a class-skill for the Dragon, it is considered so thanks to this bonus. (Example: Black Dragons nest in Swamps and Marshes, and are excellent swimmers.)
- Dragons begin with two types of natural weapons: 2 claws which deal 1d6 damage, and count as light weapons, and a bite which deals 2d6 damage and counts as a two-handed weapon. A dragon may only use his claws or bite in a single attack action. When a dragon attacks with his natural weapons, he may make full attacks at his base attack bonus as if they were manufactured weapons, and gains the usual 0.5x or 1.5x strength modifier as appropriate for off-handed (the second claw) or two handed weapons (the bite). The dragon's natural weapons must each be enchanted individually using special, slotless magical items that cost the same as a normal magical weapon. A dragon who chooses to wield a weapon loses it's bite attack, and may choose to make a standard action attack with it's claws, or it's weapon. A full-round attack may consist of both claws, or a weapon and a claw.
- Dragons may use armor normally, though may not fit into Humanoid-style clothes. A dragon can wield a properly sized weapon through exclusion of it's bite attack. Magic Items refit to a Dragon's body-type automatically. (Example: A dragon may not wear Leather Armor, but may wear a "Leather Baldric" (A style of armor used for Horses, properly sized.)
- Breath Weapon (Su): Breath Weapon which deals 1d4/level, with a 1d4+1 recharge rate. The range of the ability is in Cone 30. The Breath Weapon's damage-type corresponds to the Dragon's elemental immunity. (Example: Red Dragon breathes Fire.) However, the Metallic dragons have a secondary Breath Weapon, you make the choice between which breath weapon your dragon posesses at 1st Level, and this choice remains.
- Automatic Languages: Draconic, Common. Bonus Languages: Any (Save secret languages, like Druidic.)
- Favored Class: Any. When multiclassing, a dragon's highest class level is not counted when determining experience penalties.
- Level Adjustment: +1
