Divine Energy Master

Prerequisites: Lay on Hands, Divine Smite, and Channel Divinity features, level 5
You've obtained far greater control over the energy you can channel through you as a paladin. You gain the following benefits:

  • Tempered Smite. When you deal damage using divine smite against a creature, you know if the damage dealt is enough to reduce the target creature to 0 hit points, and you can choose to do less damage than the damage rolled. When you reduce the damage dealt by divine smite in this way, you can choose from one of the following options:
  • Divine Reinvigoration. You gain temporary hit points equal to the amount of damage reduced.
  • Divine Replenishment. You regain points expended from your lay on hands pool equal to the amount of damage reduced.
  • Divine Recharge. You regain an expended spell slot of a level you have depending on the amount of damage reduced. 9 or more: 1st level; 16 or more: 2nd level; 25 or more: 3rd level; 36 or more: 4th level; 49 or more: 5th level.
  • Channel Divinity: Maximized Smite. When you roll damage for your divine smite, you can expend a use of channel divinity to treat each die roll as its maximum value. When you do so, you can't use tempered smite and lose the ability to divine smite until the end of your next turn.
