Suggestions for an Epic Spell?[edit]

Eiji 23:24, 26 September 2007 (MDT)[edit]

I figured out a nifty spell, something I consider epic, but I am unsure how to go about it. It is a spell which for a limited time, dice damage caps are lifted. Fireball, usually stopping at 10d6, can do 30d6 if you have the caster levels for it. Very powerful of course, since many low level spells will become major threats (albit with lower save DCs), so I figured I'd limit it's use to 1d4+1 rounds, like Time Stop.

That was the other reason to make it epic... to prevent Maximize to ensure a full 5 rounds of uber-spells, and to limit spell slots.

In any case I'm not sure where to start. I've made plenty of epic spells but none of the Seeds seem really fitting. The closest I have is an ad hoc'd Transform seed to start with. Suggestions guys? How would you create this spell (or comments on the spell itself)?

Sounds like a better feat than a spell. I believe there is already such a feat...

Seriously, I've never heard of one spell altering the way another one works. This is a bit odd.

But, this is my first participation in a discussion, so I may not know what I'm talking about.

user: It wouldn't work very well as a feat (can you imagine getting those bonuses all the time?) Better it be something hard to obtain and hard to have many of (though having more than one is just fine with me). Can you find what feat you speak of? That'll be great.

As for spells altering spells, I know there are two at least that do so. What those two are aren't coming to me right now, but both were in the Spell Compendium, if one wants to seek it out. It's rare but do-able.

Enhance Spell, an SRD Feat on this website, gives details on such matters. It really only works for Epic characters, but if you're designing an EPIC spell, that shouldn't be a problem. It looks like it would work well with other metamagic feats.

Incidentally, I have posted a question myself, about difficulties with religion in my Equinox Mountain Kingdoms (3.5e Campaign Setting) setting. It may be rude to extract help from someone with more experience than me, but it would be much appreciated.

Ah yes, now I remember that one. Maybe I can work with that somehow....

Until then, I still need an idea of what Seed to base this spell off of. One suggested Fortify. I could see how Fortify could alter the properties of living things, so why not spells (after all, they have Living Spells).

Me? Experienced? Ah ha ha ha. It's not very true but I'll be happy to help.

Hi. I've finally given myself a user name, beyond just numbers. (and different numbers, because I went from my home computer and school computer)

Try Mirror Shadows. It's a 9-th level Sor/Wiz Spell on this site.

au revoir!

Here's my idea on how to do it with epic spell seeds.

You are going to be casting a spell that affects something you haven't done yet, ie something in the future. So you'll need the Forsee spell for that. You'll also need to transport the effects of your cast to the future using the Transport seed.

Also, I've used the Energy seed to effect the spells. From the seed description: "To imbue another creature with the ability to use an energy bolt as a spell-like ability at its option or when a particular condition is met, increase the Spellcraft DC by +25." Switch "creature" with spell. Make the condition "is cast" and the "energy bolt" is added to the damage die that the spell normally does. Anyways, that's how I've extrapolated it. +25 to make the damage level dependant - 1d6 per level of the caster.

  • +17 Forsee
  • +27 Transport
  • +19 Energy
  • +25 Make damage level-dependent
  • = DC 68

This'll only affect one spell you cast in the future, though. You'd have to extrapolate it to make it work for 5 rounds.

By the way, I'm stealing this idea and making an epic spell out of it.

:D That's... beautiful.

Well then if you're making it, its all yours. I eagerly await to see the results. That's lovely!

actually Eiji as a point of fact in 2e there were metamagic spells that did just that, spells changeing other spells, in addition spells like desecrate I think it was called do something similar to the HD caps of summon-able undead

I recently made a spell that for 60 DC spellcraf, 3 casters giving up one each of their 1st through 5th lvl spells and casting for 10 minutes and taking 6d6 backlash damage, they each become demigods, this I like
