Chaotic Transference Catalyst (5e Equipment)

Rod, Legendary (Requires attunement)

This gnarled rod appears to be covered in bare muscle and sinuous tissue. It bears the eight-pointed star of chaos at its head, and an unblinking eye at its base. The eye always searches its surroundings, but never settles on anything for long. Almost as if it is incapable of perceiving its quarry, or that it cannot exist in the same dimension as the Catalyst.

To attune to this item, you must make a DC20 Wisdom saving throw. Taking 24d4 Psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. If this damage would bring you to 0HP you die instantly, as your head explodes and your body is sucked into a micro portal to the Far-Realm.

While attuned to this item you have resistance to psychic damage.

The Chaotic Transference Catalyst has 8 charges, each day at dawn it regains 1d4 + 1 charges.

Bleeding Infinity: While holding the Catalyst in one hand, you can use a bonus action to consume 1 charge and activate it. While active, you can choose to take damage down to 1HP (no action required). The next time you hit a creature with a melee attack, the attack deals additional Force damage equal to the total amount of HP sacrificed. The damage dealt by the Catalyst in this way cannot be prevented or redirected in any way. Once the Catalyst is activated it remains active for 1 minute, or until its ability is triggered.

Roiling Infinity: As a reaction, you can expend 2 charges and cause one attack roll, saving throw, or ability check to be made either with advantage or disadvantage. You can activate this trait after the roll is made but before it is declared to have succeeded or failed. You must see the creature attempting the attack, saving throw, or ability check to activate this ability.

Enduring Infinity: If you receive an attack that would kill you, you can instead break your attunement to the Chaotic Transference Catalyst, expend all remaining charges, deal 2d12 Force damage per charge remaining in the rod to the creature that attacked you, and regain 2d4HP per charge expended in this way. Once this ability is activated, the Chaotic Transference Catalyst loses all magic and properties for 1d8 days, and cannot be attuned to. At the end of this period it can be attuned to normally.
