Chaos Blade (5e Equipment)

Weapon (any sword), legendary (requires attunement)

A legendary blade forged by an ancient lich. While making the sword, he imbued it with a power to absorb and wield all forms of magic, allowing him to wield the legendary Excalibur as his own, but the enchantment had gone horribly wrong. The spell was uncontrollable, and the blade became a conglomerate of different swords he came across over the years. Though its power has been sealed, it still holds the power of those items.

Tempting Chaos. When you attuning to this magic weapon, if you aren't of chaotic alignment, you must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, you still attune to the blade but will take 1d10 psychic damage after each subsequent draw of the sword until you become chaotic by some means.

Chaotic Draw. While the sword is sheathed, it lacks a definitive form but takes the form of a different sword each time you draw it. When you draw the sword, roll a d20. Depending on your roll, you draw a different sword in accordance with the Chaotic Draw chart below.

The True Form. When you draw the Chaos Blade in its "Spell-Consuming Blade" form, it lacks form entirely and the blade is made of a dark shadow. You are proficient with the weapon, and it deals 2d8 + your Intelligence modifier necrotic damage on a hit. Your choice of Strength or Dexterity can be used as the modifier on attack rolls. In this form, it qualifies for all features that would include greatswords, longswords, shortswords, and rapiers, meaning that it has the light, versatile (2d8), and thrown (20/60). It deals 2d6 damage normally. For as long as you have the sword drawn, you are immune to all magic and magical effects, including beneficial spells such as healing. You lose the ability to cast spells if you were capable of doing so, and any spells affecting you or your equipment are nullified for as long as the blade is unsheathed in this form. When you hit a creature with this sword, you may expend 1 charge. That creature must succeed a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be unable to cast spells for 1 minute.

Charges. This sword has 6 charges for the purposes of each of its forms and for its True Form ability. It regains 1d3 + 3 expended charges at midnight each night.
