This isn’t defined so how are people using it? BigShotFancyMan (talk) 15:45, 3 July 2018 (MDT)

The 5e DMG doesn't give an explicit definition of "futuristic," but it does include weapons like laser pistols and antimatter rifle. The first page in this category, 5e Futuristic Weapons, provides I think an apt definition.
I have my own definition, which I believe to be a bit meta but applicable for 5e weapons: if it isn't possible with real-world technology, and it isn't a magic item, then it's futuristic. - Guy (talk) 16:13, 3 July 2018 (MDT)
So not that the category on the lightsabers page got me rear-end hurt. I just started clicking since things were referenced. Beyond thought, I find these things very subjective, or even broad strokes across equipment. I understand ones view that anything not within a realm is futuristic but I think the option for it to be is better, i.e. could be futuristic. I think the DMG did a much better job throwing Alien on the items not from the world in which typical D&D settings take place. It places no opinion whether its futuristic or simply from another world. Opinions though, we all got 'em ay? BigShotFancyMan (talk) 19:36, 3 July 2018 (MDT)
To be frank, I'm not sure why one would believe a lightsaber should not be considered futuristic? It's a device of advanced fictional technology, originating from a canon filled with advanced fictional technology.
"It places no opinion whether its futuristic or simply from another world." I'm confused by this statement. The DMG labels several items as renaissance, modern, or futuristic. It then introduces Alien Technology as one possible way to introduce these items. I feel this wiki is upholding that spirit as best as it can. By putting an item in Category:Futuristic, no one is implying a DM can't introduce the item to a campaign otherwise devoid of futuristic technology. - Guy (talk) 20:00, 3 July 2018 (MDT)
"Controversial" seems a bit over the top. Its just my opinion that futuristic is alien, but alien does not necessarily mean futuristic. I don't believe them to be interchangeable. Does that help explain my opinion? I'm not trying to convince a viewpoint, argue a change, or get the category off a page a created. It's potatoes to me (unlike creature tags, AHHH! I shall not forget!). I began asking a question and was only discussing it. Hopefully that is better understood now? maybe? BigShotFancyMan (talk) 20:13, 3 July 2018 (MDT)
