Branch of Connection (5e Equipment)

Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement)

This branch can be made by severing the hand of a Treefolk, then burning the rest of the treefolk. The hand then transforms into a pine branch after it is left in the ashes. This branch appears a normal pine branch, but if touched to a wound the needles weave their way into the wound, and the wood digs itself into the skin around it sealing and disinfecting the wound. The pain from this process is excruciating. Slowly the skin turns to bark as the "infection" spreads towards the nearest hand. It should be noted this wood skin "infection" does not spread everywhere, just towards the hand (i.e. If the wound is on the ankle then the wood "infection" will spread up the leg and torso towards the hand). If the wound is on the hand then the whole hand will be transformed as will the area of the arm just past the wrist. Some of the area affected may grow leaves similar to tree folk. After the wound has been sealed, the branch, which is relatively small in size, will slowly start to wither and die just like a normal branch.

Once all of the hand has been transformed your mind starts to split: one half almost exactly like before and the other either lawful neutral or lawful good alignment depending on your alignment before (i.e. evil is neutral and neutral or good is good). Additionally your second personality is very attracted to nature, likes plants, and thinks it is a treefolk. You refer to yourself as "we" and have conversations (and/or arguments) with your two personalities unless you make a conscious effort not to.

After the personality split the third and final phase of the branch takes place. The hand/infected area deals 2d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage with an unarmed strike and has extreme grip strength (your DM will decide exactly what this means depending on how it is being used). Just like treefolk when you rest in sunlight you get all of the food you need for a day, but unlike treefolk, because only part of you is wood, it needs to be a long rest. Also you have proficiency in the nature skill. You can speak, read, and write in Sylvan in addition to your other languages as well as communicate simple messages from plants. While wearing no armor and no shield your AC is 10 + your Constitution modifier + your Dexterity modifier.
The spreading of the "infection" takes a day per foot it travels, than every phase after that takes two days.
