Bowstaff (5e Equipment)

Weapon (any simple weapon), Uncommon (Requires attunement, can only be attuned to by a monk)

The Bowstaff is an ancient monk weapon capable of changing forms.

To the average wielder, it is nothing more than a quarterstaff. To the those who study martial arts however, it is a multi tool of expert craftsmanship. When spun in a specific way, it can change from a quarterstaff into any number of weapons: deploying a string to become a bow, splitting to become billy-clubs or nun-chucks, perhaps even unsheathing to become a blade.

As an interaction, a monk can change this weapon into any of the forms available to them in the bowstaff. The weapon has 1d4 + 1 forms built in (including its basic quarterstaff form), alternatively the DM can choose to allow all forms to be built into the weapon. The possible forms are Bow (short(common) or long(uncommon), two nun-chucks (1d6 damage), two billy-clubs (1d6 damage), and a sword (one or two swords of DM's choice with damage of 1d6(common) or 1d8(uncommon) ). All weapon forms are considered Monk weapons.

The DM can decide to add more forms if they can think of them (or the player was hoping for something specific). Some alternative form options are glaives, spears, or choose to add magic weapon bonus damage and stuff if the weapon is overshadowed in high level gameplay.
