Boomerang Machete (5e Equipment)

Weapon (shortsword), rare (requires attunement)

This machete appears mundane at first glance but is unnaturally light, and sharp. It deals slashing damage.

Slice&Dice. Once per round, when you Attack with this machete you can make two strikes instead of one, making separate attack rolls for each.

Boomerang Throw. As an action, you can throw the machete in a straight 5ft wide line in front of you. The machete spins like a rotor, slicing anything in its path. Make separate attack rolls for any targets in its path until it returns to you. If you roll a natural 20, the machete severs a limb or even head of the target creature (up to the DM). The machete moves 30ft per round, up to 120ft, or until it hits a solid inanimate object, at which point it will make its way back to you by the shortest possible path. If the machete cannot get 15ft closer to you in a round, it will drop where it stands, necessitating manual pickup. While the machete is in the air, you are still considered to be wielding it and as such, cannot use any other weapon unless you "drop" it. Dropping the machete while in the air will cause it to drop to an unoccupied square within 5 ft of you if it can get there or where it stands if it cannot.
