Blood of an Archmage (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Wondrous item, legendary (major) (requires attunement by a spellcaster who uses intelligence as their spell casting modifier) An archmage of great magical prowess spent his life in study and worship to the Goddess of Magic, Mystra. Through his devotion he was blessed as a chosen mage with great power and knowledge. His powers grew far beyond that of his peers, and he wielded magic with ease shaping the world around him as he pleased. He did Mystra's will, and was permitted to keep the power until the day his vanity and pride overcame him and he attempted to take the Goddess of Magic for himself. His arrogance spurned the blessings of Mystra and he was struck down and the magical power and knowledge he accumulated was preserved in his blood. To those who wield the arcane arts and please the Goddess of Magic she bestows upon them an amount of blood from the foolish archmage empowering them so they might do her bidding. A spellcaster that drinks the blood takes 10d10 + 30 psychic damage that cannot be reduced or avoided in any way, and, should they survive the ordeal, they gain the power and knowledge of magic within the archmage's blood gaining the following benefits:
Once a spellcaster is attuned to the archmage's blood, they cannot unattune to it until their death wherein the blood leaves the spellcaster's body after 1 minute has passed and returns to Mystra. Attempts to remove the blood through spells such as Wish are thwarted by Mystra's will and fail. Resurrection in any form does not return attunement once the blood has returned to Mystra. |
