Astrovarg (5e Template)
From D&D Wiki
Based on the 2e astrovarg by Richard J. Pugh
Astrovargs are wolves that have adapted to live in space. They live in packs on asteroids and tiny planets, where they hunt anything edible that resides there, migrating to other astronomical objects or spelljamming vessels when overpopulated.
They resemble their terrestrial cousins, but with a smooth bony carapace that covers their forequarters, and two large ram-like horns. These horns are used to knock down large prey, gesture to other pack members, or butting heads in contests of leadership. Each pack has a distinctive pattern to their fur.
- Increase Intelligence by 2. Intelligence cannot be increased to greater than 6.
- Increase the greater of Strength or Dexterity to 16, if it is less than 16.
Armor Class. Increase by 2.
Charge. If the astrovarg moves at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a ram attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 5 (2d4) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Astroleap (1/Day). With a 10 ft. running start, the astrovarg can make an astroleap. If the astrovarg is on a vessel, asteroid or tiny planet, this is a 120-foot long jump that takes it out of that body's gravitational field. If the astrovarg is on a planet, this is a long jump up to 60 feet.
The base creature's weapon attacks are replaced with the following attack.
Ram. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (2d4 + 3) bludgeoning damage.
Multiattack. (CR 2 or higher only) The astrovarg makes two ram attacks.
Recalculate CR, as Armor Class and attacks have both changed.
