Astral Dragonsphire |
Wondrous Item, artifact (Requires attunement by a spellcaster)
A small blue crystal that shines brightly with magical energy. Legends claim it was given to a powerful wizard by the avatar of the dragon god Bahamut, as some say it was made from a crystalized tear of his father Io. The wizard's name has been long forgotten but the power contained in this crystal indesputable.
Random Properties. The Astral Dragonsphire has the following random properties:
- 3 minor beneficial properties
- 1 major beneficial property
- 3 minor detrimental properties
- 1 major detrimental property
Limitless Potential The attuned spellcaster can cast a spell that targets the orb, the orb will then absorb the spell cast and gain charges equal to the level of the spell slot used. The Astral Dragonsphire can have 99 charges at a maximum, if the Dragonsphire were to gain charges exceeding that of its maximum of 99, the attuned person takes 1d10 psychic damage for each charge above 99, this damage can not be altered or lowered in any way, also the spell is not stored and the spell slot used is wasted. As an action, an attuned spellcaster can use charges in the Dragonsphire to cast a spell without using a spell slot equal to half the number of charges used (i.e. six charges are required to cast a third-level spell and ten are required to cast a fifth-level spell). You cannot cast a spell of 6th level or higher this way.
Destroying the Astral Dragonsphire. The Dragonsphire can not be destroyed by any means; however, its power can be eliminated if one of the dragon gods, Bahamut, Tiamat, or Io willingly bathes it in their blood. This causes the Dragonsphire to lose its luminous light and become a mundane, non-magical sapphire worth 1,000 GP.
