Welcome to D&D Wiki![edit]

Welcome!

Hello Axl and welcome to D&D Wiki. I hope you have been enjoying D&D Wiki and I hope you have been finding the information here useful. Before you start contributing it is recommended you make sure your user preferences match your preferences. I am an admin (and, actually, the owner as well). Everything relating to admins can be found here.

Questions

If you have any questions about a specific page please ask it on that pages talk page. All other questions should be asked to another; user, admin, or me, the owner (ask me a question).

Formatting

Formatting on D&D Wiki (or any wiki for that matter) can be very difficult, and if you need help a good place to start is Help:Editing on Wikipedia (or even their Introduction page). This will explain basic wiki formatting and should provide quite a few useful links that explain more specific areas of wiki formatting. Again, if you have any questions about formatting on D&D Wiki please ask them as, I imagine, anybody will be more than happy to help you get them answered.

Community

A strong and welcoming community exists on D&D Wiki, and I am sure you will find it rather nice. Most discussions take place on content talk pages, however please feel free to ask specific D&D-related questions on DnD Discussions. Anyway, possibly since discussions are never deleted, people try to be nice. This means follow Wikipedia's guidelines on civility and etiquette when discussing anything. Also, on a pretty different note, to ensure people know who posted what, please sign your name after a post with four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the signature icon (Signature icon.png). This will automatically produce your name and the date. Anyway, I hope you come to enjoy D&D Wiki and the community and welcome again, you are now a D&D Wikian. --Green Dragon 22:08, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Few things[edit]

First of all, you can sign your posts by hitting the button above the edit window, or else by adding four tildes (~~~~).

Secondly, make sure you are only adding content for which you are comfortable to have other people editing. Every time you edit a page there is a very clear warning that says "If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here." I've noticed on many (all?) of your pages you have placed warnings saying "No one can edit this page", and that's simply not true. Anyone can edit your page, that's the whole point of a wiki.

Hope that clears things up, JazzMan 22:08, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Is this a response to my Fell Knight 4e Power Request? Or is this for signiture on my creations?
Also, I really don't want anyone editing my stuff, because that's the way I want it to be. If someone says, "Hey, it looks unstable." And points out stuff, I will change it.
Thanks anyway though.
--Axl 22:20, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Axl
I just meant every time you write something on a talk page and want to sign it. If you use four tildes instead of manually typing "Axl", it will put a link to your userpage as well as the date and time of your post. It just makes it easier to follow later on.
As to someone editing your stuff, I see you asked Green Dragon. We'll see what he says, but the GNU license simply doesn't work that way. It doesn't matter if that's not what you want, unfortunately. Now it's proper etiquette to ask before you make significant changes, but you simply can't expect someone to ask you before changing *anything*. JazzMan 23:13, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
That kind of stinks. Oh well. Thanks anyway though. Thanks for showing me how to create a power list.
--Axl 23:16, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Axl
It stinks for most websites, but it's kinda the cornerstone of a wiki. To each their own I guess.
If you need any help creating anything else just let me know. JazzMan 23:40, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks!

--Axl 00:08, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to chime in here to add something. While it's true anyone can edit anything, most users like to maintain some sense of ownership over their content. While this may be a false sense of ownership, it's usually respected. Few people will go in and edit your races or classes to make it what they want. If anyone has suggestions for content or balance they will likely just add a balance template or leave you a message on the discussion page. I wouldn't worry about people editing your content. I've uploaded some of my own work here and other people making edits has never been an issue. Plus, if they ever make drastic changes you don't like, there's always the revert button. --Badger 00:33, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, how long have you been in D&D Wiki?
There's a revert button? Hmm, I'll have to check that out.
--Axl 00:40, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
I've been officially contributing (under my username) since August of 2009, but I was lurking and using content from here since about December of 08. When I write it out like that it doesn't seem like it's been very long, but I feel like I've been here forever. --Badger 00:59, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Ohh. Okay.

--Axl 01:01, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

How?[edit]

Hey, can anyone tell me how I can add a secondary target onto a class power?

Thanks,

--Axl 01:50, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Check out this. It is the full template, with an example. It should be able to answer any of your questions. --Badger 01:54, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
In short, add this:

|secondarytarget=Secondary target for the power. Delete if it isn't used. |secondaryattack=Attack stat against the secondary target. Delete if it isn't used. |secondaryattackextra= |secondarydefense=Defense stat for the secondary target. Delete if it isn't used. |secondaryhit=What to do when the secondary attack hits. |secondarymiss=What to do when the secondary attack misses. Delete if it isn't used.

Thanks! I guess it's nice having someone that knows all this.

--Axl 02:15, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Wolfkin[edit]

Can anybody go to the Wolfkin Race and see if the changes I made are okay? I made the power suited to 4th edition. It's the red one.

Thanks,

--Axl 20:28, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

This is probably a message best left on the talk page of the article in question. JazzMan 01:13, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh, Okay.

--Axl 17:57, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to hear from you[edit]

So you may or may not know this, but Dandwiki used to have an IRC chatroom where contributors could talk in real time and get help from one another. While the chatroom was eventually removed, I'm polling the community to see if we would like to have one again. Here is where you come in. If you have some time (it shouldn't take more than a few minutes), stop by the discussion and post your thoughts. Thanks, Badger 21:49, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

delete page[edit]

Does anyone know how to delete a page? I need to get rid of these extra power lists I've made.

--Axl 01:48, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

See Candidates for Deletion. JazzMan 01:52, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Also, don't just recreate pages if you created them with the wrong name. See up at the top that button that says "move"? Use that instead. And lastly, make sure that all of your pages have the right identifier on them. You recently created Minotaur Rage, which should instead be Minotaur Rage (4e Power). I've cleaned up a ton of these so far; please be more careful in the future. JazzMan 11:43, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I knew about the 'move' button. I'll try to be more careful.

--Axl 16:46, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Your Sandbox[edit]

Just a heads up, I'm gonna go ahead and move your sandbox to your namespace. For future reference, sandboxes should be made under your name, for instance "User:Axl/Sandbox". --Badger 05:43, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh, Thanks!
Do you know how to create a table?
--Axl 19:48, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, he does, however I think he has forgotten about this conversation. :P I am also quite good at wiki formatting and would be happy to help you with a table. :) --Vrail 01:11, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! If you could show me how, that would be nice.
--Axl 16:24, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Ok, here is an example table:
1st column 2nd column 3rd column
1st row 1st row 1st row
2nd row 2nd row 2nd row
3rd row 3rd row 3rd row
4th row 4th row 4th row
5th row 5th row 5th row
6th row 6th row 6th row
You can just copy and paste that coding and change the text in each box. To add more columns put this text directly below the previous one:
! rowspan="2" | column name
Then beside the text in the rows for the previous columns put a line (|) and then the text you want to add to the row in that new column. To add more rows add this text:
|- class="{{Odd-Even|{{#var:odd}}}}"
|row text||class="left" | row text|| row text (all of those |'s are lines, not l's :))
Make sure to always close it with |} the line below. Does that all make sense? --Vrail 17:14, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
If I just copy it and ... Whoa. That's a lot of stuff. Well, when I put it in something, I can always use it as a reference. Thanks!
--Axl 17:52, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, yeah, I completely forgot about this. I didn't come back to see if you had questions. I see Vrail answered your tables question. If you have any more questions about tables, my new user guide (as of about 3 minutes ago) has some info about how to make tables. The guide also mentions how to work with sandboxes, and a few other things you may be interested in. Not everything is done yet, so if you have questions that aren't covered yet, don't hesitate to ask on my talk page. --Badger 20:01, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Tags[edit]

I've notice many of your recent pages have not been tagged, please use tags on all of your work. :) --Vrail 01:09, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Tags? you mean like {{<!-author->}}? Or do you mean {{<!-Copyright Disclaimer->}}?
--Axl 16:25, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
No, lol. A tag is the classifier after the name of the page. i.e. Knight (3.5e Class) where the (3.5e Class) would be the tag. Or Generating Ability Scores (3.5e Variant Rule) where the (3.5e Variant Rule) would be the tag. It should say what the tag is supposed to be when your naming the page in the box for the preload. Does that make sense? --Vrail 16:54, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that makes sense. Has that not been showing up? Actually, are you talking about the stuff in my sandbox? Can you list the stuff that needs the tags?
--Axl 17:40, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Ya, I am talking about your sandbox. I realize that it's a sandbox and the stuff there is not actually on the wiki yet, but I'm just a little bit OCD about that stuff. :p However I'm sure it would be fine to leave it how it is seeing as it's just sandbox work. :) --Vrail 17:54, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll fix that later. But thanks though.
--Axl 18:03, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Actually, your "Future Equipment" page isn't in your sandbox. Like I said above, you want to include "User:Axl/" before the page name. So your sandbox became "User:Axl/My Sandbox" and your future weapons should become "User:Axl/Future Weapons" not "Future Weapons". It is important to get that sort of thing right, as we don't need any more half finished ideas on the wiki than we already have. --Badger 19:02, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
I just went through and moved everything to where it belongs. Since you are making new pages often, you'll need to get this right. If you want your work to be in your sandbox, the link should be [[User:Axl/Page Name]] which will show up as User:Axl/Page Name. If you don't want to display "User:Axl" in front of everything, and I don't blame you, write your links like this: [[User:Axl/Page Name|Display Name]] and it will show up as a link that displays whatever you wrote, regardless of the actual page name. If you have any questions please ask before making another five pages that have to be moved, redirected, and then deleted. --Badger 19:16, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Ok

--Axl 20:00, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Talk pages[edit]

Please stop removing things from talk pages. They are an archive of everything that happened on that page, and everything that's there stays there. Thanks, JazzMan 19:41, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Oh, oops. Sorry.
--Axl 20:23, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Your Sourcebook[edit]

Alright, so you're writing a sourcebook for 4e future. Very Cool. However, you aren't doing it quite right. Every page in your Sourcebook needs to be a subpage of the main page, not a new page. What I mean is your sourcebook is named "DnD 4.0 Future" so the URL for that page should be "http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/DnD_4.0_Future_(3.5e_Sourcebook)". The URL for your page "Introduction" should be "http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/DnD_4.0_Future_(3.5e_Sourcebook)/Introduction". Is that clear? You can still link them like any other page, by putting "DnD_4.0_Future_(3.5e_Sourcebook)/Introduction" in the double brackets. What you've done right now is made several random pages floating around the wiki that aren't where they belong. Let me know if you need any more help. --Badger 21:49, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

(Groan). Okay. I'll just change all the links to fit the new page name. By the way, it's a 4e Sourcebook. Why's there the 3.5e Sourcebook thing?
--Axl 21:52, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
I copied the URL from a 3.5e Sourcebook, and didn't think to change it. Yours should say 4e, not 3.5e. Sorry. --Badger 22:01, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
That's interesting that you got it from a 3.5e thing. Has someone else already done something with almost the exact same name as mine?
--Axl 21:58, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
No, I just pulled the URL from Races of War (one of the most complete and perfect sourcebooks you'll come across) and changed the name, not the edition. --Badger 22:01, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Oh, okay. Are you doing anything currently? --Axl 22:02, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Never mind. --Axl 22:13, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Fun fact of the day[edit]

I don't know if you've realized this, but did you know that there's a move button up near the top of the page? This can be used to move an incorrectly-titled page to use the correct title. JazzMan 23:24, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay, thanks! That actually helps me with something.
--Axl 00:17, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

4e Equipment[edit]

Since you asked Green Dragon, and I'm not sure if you watch his talk page I thought I'd let you know I've started working on some 4e preloads. here is the link. --Badger 21:09, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Problems with your Sourcebook[edit]

Alright, so it seems you're having some trouble understanding what your sourcebook is, and what it isn't.

  1. Your sourcebook is a complete set of variant rules and modifications to an existing DnD Edition (4e, in your case)
  2. Your sourcebook is written by you. As this is a wiki others may contribute, but 99% of the work is yours.
  3. Your sourcebook is still 4e. Because of this, all the equipment needs to be labeled (4e Equipment) not (4e Future Equipment). The same is true for Races, Classes, Powers, and whatever else you write.

Ok then, now that we've cleared that up, here's what we have to do:

  1. Every piece of equipment you wrote that is labeled (4e Future Equipment) needs to be moved to (4e Equipment). The same is true for all your races and classes and everything.
  2. To have all your 4e Future equipment (and other things) kept together, you need to add a category at the bottom of each page that indicates that page belongs to your sourcebook.

Hopefully all this makes sense, as it is important. If you don't understand anything here, you need to ask someone about it before you continue work on your sourcebook. I don't really want to help you with the grunt work of moving pages and whatnot, but I'd be willing to teach you how to do things, if you need me to. --Badger 03:50, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

My RfA[edit]

Recently I nominated myself for adminship on the wiki. I don't want to sound like I'm advertising my nomination, however it has been three days without any support or oppose comments. I am just trying to get at least a few people to take notice and comment. My nomination may be found here. Thanks. --Vrail 11:16, 18 August 2010 (MDT)

Tiered bonuses for racial powers[edit]

Hi Axl, thanks for contacting me!

I'll explain further. Attack powers usually have the Implement or Weapon keywords. Therefore they benefit from enchantment bonuses, and are expected to have an enchantment bonus at later levels. Furthermore, Weapon attacks will benefit from a proficiency bonus (although they normally target AC).

Racial attack powers will most often not have the Implement or Weapon keywords (since they are inherent abilities) and therefore need some attack bonus to keep up with enchantment bonuses. For example, the Dragonborn's breath weapon has +2 at heroic, +4 at paragon, +6 at epic.

So no, you don't have to have the tiered bonus, but don't expect the power to still be effective by late Heroic. I hope that this is useful for you, please contact me if you have any queries about my other comments. Thanks! Marasmusine 10:24, 22 January 2012 (MST)

Damage usually tiers too. Dragonborn's breath goes 1d6, 2d6, 3d6 for example. Marasmusine 00:39, 28 January 2012 (MST)

sci fi[edit]

Hi Axl, on the subject of your Future work, I wondered if you had read the new Gamma World? A while ago I was working on adapting a sci-fi 4e but abandoned it when I realized that using GW as a foundation was much better than D&D. It uses basically the 4e system with with more appropriate skills and damage types, and instead of race/class you mix and match two origins. Anyway :) Keep up the good work. Marasmusine 15:56, 1 February 2012 (MST)

No, I have not. If you want to contribute Gamma World to 4e Future, you can. :) Though, I have worked on a Racial Hybrid system. If you wanna check it out, it's here --Axl 16:06, 1 February 2012 (MST)

pumped[edit]

Hi Axl, I've removed the Pumped sourcebook per your request. I'd like to remove the associated page Pumped Eldritch Giant (4e Race) too, since it's not really usable in normal 4e games. If you have any plans for it though I'll leave it. Marasmusine 01:59, 3 April 2012 (MDT)

No, you can remove it. It was meant for the Pumped sourcebook. So I'm guessing you're an admin on here, eh? --Axl 12:12, 14 April 2012 (MDT)

Future[edit]

Hi Axl, I'm thinking of making a 4e sourcebook based on the arcade game [Captain Commando]. I'll be basing this on a Gamma World type mechanics. Since you have an interest in all things Future you may be interested to see how this is done, and how it might be applied to your Future sourcebook. If you like the style, perhaps I can help you with your own articles. I'll let you know when I've done a few examples (may be a few weeks!) Marasmusine 03:52, 9 April 2012 (MDT)

All right. I'll check up on it when you get some stuff in it. Most of my stuff is based off of either Megaman or Kirby, though, I'm going to take one race from Fire Emblem, the Laguz, and integrate it into the sourcebook. You'll see how it's integrated when I modify one of the races I built. Actually, I think I'll actually end up splitting it into several races. --Axl 12:19, 14 April 2012 (MDT)
I made a start at Future (4e Sourcebook). Marasmusine 13:00, 14 April 2012 (MDT)
Okay, it seems to me like you're leaning towards D20 Modern (ten levels thing). Oh, I just went into your Origin link. Don't put (4e Future Origin). I was told not to do that. Just use (4e Origin). Might be a cool thing when more origins are put in. One question. How do you get more powers as you level up? Can you explain that in the sourcebook -or did I miss something?-? So with the origins, is it kinda like the tech tree from D20 Modern? --Axl 13:49, 14 April 2012 (MDT)
Thanks for taking a look. The power progression is described at Future_(4e_Sourcebook)#Gaining Levels - At 1st level you should have 2 Novice Powers (usually two at-will attacks) and 1 Future Power (I haven't made any of those yet). By 10th level you have 2 Novice Powers, 2 Utility Powers, 2 Expert Powers and 3 Future Powers.
I'm not familiar with d20 modern. The advantage of having a 10-level Origin is that they are much easier to create compared to D&D classes. I could try knocking out a few Sonic origins to see how that would work. I find the idea of mixing and matching concepts from lots of different games to be interesting.
Also, I'm now regretting a bit calling mine "Future" as well. The intention was to be collaborative, I don't mean to appear competitive! Marasmusine 02:05, 17 April 2012 (MDT)
Ohhhh, okay! So that's how leveling up works. Thanks for explaining!
In mine, I was thinking about adding Halo armor (probably should put weapons in there too).
Nah, don't worry about calling yours "Future". It's all right. :) --Axl 20:34, 18 April 2012 (MDT)

Hi Axl, I've taken another look at Pantheon (4e Creature) and I don't know if you intend to work on it again or not. At the moment it's a possible deletion candidate since it's not in a usable state. However, I did take the time to repair the first monster, the Pantheon Guardian. If you need help fixing these, I can give you some pointers. Marasmusine (talk) 05:46, 14 September 2012 (MDT)

Well, I'm just kinda out of it. Haven't been here in a while. But, if anything, I do not want the sourcebook deleted. Especially not the Oni class! I love that class! I don't want the Oni class to be messed around with at all unless it's being added onto. But, yeah. I haven't worked on anything lately. Don't know what to do with the Pantheon. --Axl (talk) 21:15, 27 September 2012 (MDT)
I'd like to help balancing with the Oni, but I'm still not sure how your Future mechanics and keywords deviate from normal 4e. (For example, I think we discussed before what would need to happen if there were no equipment enchantment bonuses; and your damage types seem to be different). Could I just assume that the Oni can work with vanilla 4e and make balance suggestions from there? Marasmusine (talk) 01:24, 28 September 2012 (MDT)
