Interlocking, extra fortified 6' height by 2' width tower shields, each with a push latch and a socket for a push latch. Initially crafted for fighting wizards in 1270 DR, these shields were intended to block area of effect spells when used in phalanx formation with a row of ogres wielding spears behind the shield wall. As it turned out, the ogres allied themselves more closely to the wizards, and at the start of the battle, the majority of the phalanx was crushed against itself from the rear. The remaining phalanx members encircled their shields, intending to attack from within a small shield fortification. The wizards cast various fog-based spells into the shield fort and the battlefield fell silent. Since then, these shields have served as a warning to all who know the tale.

"The best offense is a good defense."

SPECIAL:

1.) Lockdown: As an action, the two shields can be locked together, providing (for medium or smaller wielders) full cover from attacks in front of the shield and half cover from directional attacks coming from the front left and front-right directions (only within a 45 degree radius from the facing direction). While locked together, the shields render the user effectively blinded with regard to the shield facing direction (180 degree radius directional blindness). This effect lasts until the wielder drops the shields and comes out from behind them or until the wielder unlocks them and can once more view through their center (1 action, regardless of which). When unlocked, these shields grant +2 AC like any single shield would.

2.) Blind Charge: While the shields are locked together, the wielder may expressly state that they wish to spend both their move action and their standard action to perform a blind charge. This charge must be made in a straight line. Each creature, one at a time, who would block forward movement of the wielder takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage, and must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone if they are Large sized or smaller and pushed 5 feet. The saving throw DC is 10 + Wielder's Strength Modifier + Wielder's Proficiency Bonus (if wielder is proficient with shields and martial weapons). The first creature bumped into in this way

3.) These shields require a 15 strength to be wielded properly, otherwise the wielder must make successful Strength saving throws (DC 12) with each attempt to charge with the locked shields in order to not fall prone upon the shields.

House Rule: The shields when locked down are angled enough to stand on their own and not be blown over by a light wind. If they are left locked together and placed upon the battlefield, they provide full cover to any creature of medium size or smaller as if they were a wooden wall of the same size as the shields.
