Assay
2nd-level Divination (ritual)
Casting time: 10 minutes
Range: Touch (1 ft cube)
Components: V, S, M (a touchstone costing 1 sp which may be reused)
Duration: instantaneous

You can determine the mineral or metallic content of up to a cubic foot of an object, loose ore, or tunnel wall. The cubic foot assayed is the cubic foot in proximity to where the caster touches. The caster may ask and receive an answer about how much of two minerals or metals exist in something, be it ore, jewelry, ingots etc.

Fluff. In many worlds, this spell is a tightly guarded secret because it can be used to make fortunes. So in those worlds if it is available at all, it is likely to be an order of magnitude more expensive to learn than a standard 2nd level spell. Dwarven artificers love this spell.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher you may ask about two additional minerals or metals for each additional spell slot above 2nd. Casting this spell with a 9th level spell slot gives you a complete run-down of all the minerals and metals in the assayed object.
