Illumination. The volvagia sheds bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.

Legendary Resistance. If the volvagia fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magma Swim. The volvagia can use its fly speed inside molten rock as if it was a swim speed.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The volvagia makes one bite attack and two claw attacks.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) fire damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage.

Fire Breath (Recharge 5-6). The volvagia exhales fire in a 30-foot line. Each creature in that area must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 35 (10d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

A volvagia appears as a flying serpent about 20 feet in length, with a bright red backside and paler orange underbelly. It features two razor sharp claws, which it uses to maneuver its body along the ground when not flying. Its skull is surrounded with a metallic bone-like protrusion even harder than the armor-like scales that cover its entire body, and bursting from this skull is a long mane that glows like fire.

Any volvagia can live for centuries, and is often the apex predator in a volcano or other area of abundant molten rock. Indeed, it survives in part on heat itself. These monstrous dragons are one of few creatures feared by gorons, as volvagia are known to devour the stalwart rock-people while they yet live.

Trivia

  • Argorok, another kind of armored fire-breathing dragon native to Hyrule
  • Goron, a good-natured humanoid race known to be the sought prey of volvagia
