Magic Eaters

Fey are fascinating creatures to most civilized benevolent races; their joy and careless behavior seems to bring the best (sometimes the worst) out of people, awakening the desire to know them and their mysteries.

Tales tell of a fortunate few who had the chance to meet and befriend the sjtel, a rare kind of fey (the creature is in the end of this post), addicted to stealing magic, that lives in the farthest forests of the cold north. Among those few, there is a smaller group, called the magic eaters, who have all been put through a ritual named the Eter Sjel. The ritual links the soul of the sjtel-friend to their community and racial spirit, granting those who pass through it special powers. All classes may receive the benefit of the Eter Sjel in theory, but spellcaster would have a very hard time among this kind of fey, because they would be harassed to the point of insanity.

Class Features:

Weapon and armor proficiency: Magic eaters gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Detect Magic (su): The magic eater, may use this spell-like ability at will. Caster level as a sorcerer of the magic eater class level.

Magic drain (su): The touch of the magic eater, or its melee weapon while wielded by it, is infused with a magic eating effect. When the character hits, with the mentioned means, another creature able to cast spells or spell-like abilities, he may have the victim forced to lose one, randomly determined, spell slot (or spell-like ability use) from his mind. This drain counts as using the spell slot (or spell-like ability use) for the day, and it may be recovered by the normal means. The magic eater may use this ability 1/day at first level, and one additional time per day at 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th levels.

At level five, the magic eater gains the ability to affect magic items with this ability.Permanent items are unaffected by this power, but charged items have 1d4 of its charges drained permanently, while 1 use-only items are completely destroyed.

Every spell slot, spell-like ability, or charges so drained, grants the magic eater 5 temporary hit points, that lasts for an hour if in excess of the normal maximum. This drain also sustains the character without food and water for a number of days equal to the highest spell level drained in that day. The number of days of provided sustenance does not stack, it overlaps.

This ability does not function against creatures with the fey type and the items crafted by them. This ability does not function against psionic powers and psionic items.

Light (su): Starting at 2nd level, the magic eater radiates a natural silver-blue light that duplicates the effect of a light spell continually. He may turn it off at will, with a free action, but it seems to get brighter and brighter when they are stealing magic.

Fey diplomacy (ex): Reaching level 4, the character gains a +2 competence bonus on charisma checks, when dealing with creatures with the fey type.

Greater Invisibility (Sp): At the 6th level of this class, the Magic eater may use this ability 1/day as a sorcerer with a caster level equal to his level in this class.

Summon Sjtels (Sp): Received at the 7th level, this ability functions as the summon monster spells, except that it summons 2d4+2 sjtels. Caster level as a sorcerer of a level equal to the levels already gained in this class.

Mana Flux(sp): A Magic eater of 8th level or higher, may use the mana flux spell (player's handbook II, pg 119) as a sorcerer with a caster level equivalent to his levels in this class. This ability may be used 1/day.

Fey metamorphosis: At 10th level, a magic eater is so attuned to the sjtels that he transcends, changing his type to fey; this means, among others things that he is no longer affected by spells that specifically target humanoids, such as charm person. The magic eater also receives damage reduction 5/cold iron.
