I am very confused right now because I have a friend that is telling says he can shoot like 11 arrows with many shot but everywhere I read he should only be able to shoot 4. He has a base attack of 19/14/9/4. Now if one can shoot just 4 arrows with many shot what is the point of having many shot, and if he can shoot 11 HOW does one shoot 11 arrows in one round. My DM is getting upset at the amount of damage my friend does with his 11 arrows in one round because it is almost 200 points of damage with his Compost Long bow and being an Arcane Archer, we are level 23 right now. Can anyone please help me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pacho73 (talk • contribs) 13:42, 10 August 2014. Please sign your posts.
- As the feat says, " to a maximum of four arrows at a base attack bonus of +16." According to this, he only gets four arrows, at +16 and beyond, and that is it.
- As for your second question regarding what the point is of taking Manyshot, the difference between Manyshot and a Full-Attack Action is that, using his current BAB of +19, a ManyShot would allow him to hit a single, targeted opponent with +11/+11/+11/+11 if he shoots four arrows, or +13/+13/+13 if he shoots only three arrows, or +15/+15 if he only shoots two arrows. In this case, he is allows to attack a single target with an overall better chance to hit than if he simply used a Full-Attack Action, which, since he also has Rapid Shot as a pre-requisite of this feat, would be able to take five attacks of +19/+19/+14/+9/+4, and select any enemy in range for each individual attack... and that goes before any house rules regarding bows and base attack bonus. For example, in my campaigns, I only allow archers to be able to fire a number of arrows up to their dexterity modifier, since being able to fire four arrows accurate in six seconds would require a massive amount of dexterity.
- Anyways, to summarize, Manyshot forces him to focus up to four arrows on one target (As a Full-Round Action, mind you, so he can't do anything else except for free or swift actions that round if he chooses to Manyshot) with the benefit being that he has overall better chance for each arrow to hit. Whereas his Full-Attack Action should get an extra attack from Rapid Shot, and the later shots become less accurate, but he can choose multiple enemies instead of just one. - I think you also forgot to include the -2 penalty ('to all attacks in that round') for using Rapid Shot so the full attack scenario would be +17/+17/+12/+7/+2 - am I right?
