Ysoki (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Ysoki[edit]
This is a porting of the Ysoki, or ratfolk, race from Pathfinder into Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.
Physical Description[edit]
Ratfolk have whiskered snouts, large ears, and hairless tails, and typically have red eyes and short brown or black fur. A common Ysoki is 4 feet tall and weighs around 80 pounds. Ratfolk vary considerably, however; even a single family group can exhibit substantial variation in hair color, eye color, or size.

Society[edit]
Most surface-dwelling humanoids call Ysoki “ratfolk” and know them as a communal people who prefer cramped conditions with up to 100 individuals living in a given house. If they can’t find homes in town, Ysoki may instead live in caves and cavern complexes, as these provide great storage for the many and varied goods they bring back from trading expeditions. Ratfolk love to travel, and they can often be found on the road in merchant caravans. They’re good with their hands and have a keen eye for spotting anything out of the ordinary, from threats to treasures. They’re also inveterate hoarders; Ysoki warrens are crammed full of unusual odds and ends gathered by previous generations and stowed away in preparation for some future emergency.
Ysoki Names[edit]
Every Ysoki family has perhaps two dozen names that have been passed down from generation to generation, sometimes with minor alterations or nicknames. A grandfather might be Grivver, while his daughter goes by Griva and her son is simply Griv. Ratfolk are often assigned nicknames and sobriquets by humanoids they interact with, but most Ysoki find these names distasteful and endure them only when outside of Ysoki communities.
Sample Names: Barnan, Chikis, Chonan, Deto, Jass, Jix, Knagi, Kubi, Lolo, Ninnec, Nos, Rak, Renzi, Skigim, Tali, Zess
Ysoki Traits[edit]
Ysoki, also known among others as ratfolk, are small people who resemble humanoid rats. They are found as both itinerant merchants and scavengers in the cities of other races.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Age. Ysoki do not live very long, though they are at least known to often live to their life's fullest. They generally do not live past 70 years old.
Alignment. Ysoki are very variable about morality, but most tend to be chaotic.
Size. Ysoki are usually about 4 feet tall and weigh around 80 pounds, however variation within Ysoki families is common and can vary not just in appearance, but also in size. Your size is Small.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Overcrowd. Your body is slight and able to fit into small spaces with others of similar stature. As long as you are small in size, you can end your turn in the same space as another small-sized creature, only a total of two creatures can share the same space when using this trait or a similar ability.
Pack Rat. You are much better than other people at packing objects effectively. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Ratfolk Lore. You have proficiency in either the Perception or Stealth skill, and you can take the Hide action as a bonus action on each of your turns.
Ratspeak. You have the ability to communicate in a limited manner with rodents. They can understand the meaning of your words, and you can partially translate the chittering sounds they make into simple meanings. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them.
Vicious Incisors. Your teeth are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Ysoki, and one other language of your choice.
Subrace. You may select one of the following subrace options: deep rat, desert rat, longsnout rat, sewer rat, or shadow rat.
Deep Rat[edit]
Your ancestors lived deeper underground than other Ysoki, causing you to have a greater sense of darkvision.
Superior Darkvision. Your darkvision has a range of 120 feet, instead of 60.
Desert Rat[edit]
You are native to arid plains and likely grew up traveling the roads. You have a leaner build than other ratfolk, with longer limbs and short fur.
Traveller. Your base walking speed increases to 30 feet.
Longsnout Rat[edit]
The long snouts that run in your family give you a keener sense of smell than most ratfolk.
Keen Smell. When you make a Wisdom (Perception) check that relies on smell, you add double your proficiency bonus to the check instead of your normal proficiency bonus.
Sewer Rat[edit]
You come from a long line of Ysoki from a community based in the sewers beneath a large settlement.
Sewer Resilience. You have advantage on saving throws against diseases and being poisoned.
Shadow Rat[edit]
Your ancestors lived in dark spaces underground, granting you dark fur and vaguely unnatural looks and manners that unnerves people and frightens animals.
Menacing. You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
