Worn And Natural Armor Stacking (5e Variant Rule)
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
By default, Natural Armor and Worn Armor don't stack - what is bluntly illogical. After all, an iron dumbbell in safe is tougher, than glass vase in safe. And if you're already tough, and you put armor on top of that, you become incredibly hard to kill.
First, you determine character's "Raw Natural Armor" - how many AC he gets from being tough. You take his listed Natural Armor, and remove Dexterity Bonus from it. You then combine Raw Natural Armor with Worn Armor AC, and then add Dexterity Bonus and other modifiers.
Examples[edit]
- Bob has 15 Natural Armor, of which +3 is from Dexterity Modifier. Therefore, his Raw Natural Armor is +2. If he wears Studded Leather, then his AC is 17 (12 + 2 + 3).
- Bobissimus has 17 Natural Armor, despite having -2 Dexterity Modifier. Therefore, his Raw Natural Armor is +9. If he wears Plate Armor, his AC is 27 (18 + 9; negative Dexterity Modifier doesn't affect Heavy Armor users).
