Class Features[edit]

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Wolves of Moonbow gain no proficiencies with armor or weapons.

Spellcasting: At each level you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane or divine spellcasting class before becoming a Wolf of Moonbow, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Class Abilities: Include the character's Wolf of Moonbow levels when calculating any character ability based on his class levels (such as save DCs for characters with special abilities whose DCs are based on class level), but not caster level for spellcasting characters. The character doesn't gain any abilities, spells known, or spells per day from the addition of his wolf of moonbow levels, though—only the calculations of his level-based abilities are affected. If a character has levels in two or more classes in addition to his wolf of moonbow levels, each class gains the benefit of adding the wolf of moonbow levels when calculating abilities.

Animal Guide: Each level of Wolf of Moonbow counts as a level of each class you belonged to, for the purposes of calculating each of your animal companion's, animal familiar's, and/or special mount's statistics.

Inner Struggle (Ex): At the first level, the Wolf's afflicted Lycanthropy condition becomes easier to wrestle with.

  • A character with awareness of his condition retains his identity and does not lose control of his actions if he changes. However, each time he changes to his animal form, he must make a Will save (DC 15 + number of times he has been in animal form) or temporarily assume the alignment of his animal form in all shapes for the duration of the transformation. Three failures on this check means you can no longer gain levels in this class and lose all class abilities and the character’s alignment permanently changes to that of the appropriate lycanthrope.
  • Once a character becomes aware of his affliction, he can now voluntarily attempt to change to animal or hybrid form, using the appropriate Control Shape check DC. An attempt is a standard action and can be made each round. Any voluntary change to animal or hybrid form immediately and temporarily changes the character’s alignment to that of the appropriate lycanthrope for the duration of the transformation.
  • Each level gained in Wolf of Moonbow resets the Control Shape check DC to 15. And it resets the failure count.

Scent of Evil (Su): At the first level, a Wolf of Moonbow can smell the presence of evil within its scent range. It can detect the strength of evil similar to a Detect Evil spell, but still has the limitations of Scent.

Improved Natural Attack (Ex): At the second and fourth level, the Wolf gains the Improved Natural Attack feat.

Righteous Transformation (Ex): At the third level, the Wolf can transform into Beast or Hybrid form sparked by his righteous fury. Upon witnessing a significantly evil or horrific action, the Wolf may choose to transform into Beast or Hybrid form as a free action without making a Control Shape check. The Wolf will, in Beast or Hybrid form, focus entirely on killing the individual or individuals that committed the action that inspired the fury. Once all targets are dead or out of sight, the Wolf will transform back into his human form. This transformation does not count as a transformation for the purposes of Inner Struggle.

Enhanced Scent (Ex): At the fourth level, the range of the Wolf's scent is doubled while in Beast or Hybrid form. The basic range becomes 60 feet, the range for smelling targets upwind becomes 120, and the range for smelling targets downwind becomes 30, and the range for determining a target's exact location becomes 10.

Frightening Howl (Su): At the fifth level, the Wolf gains the ability to unleash a frightening howl while in Beast or Hybrid form. Charisma modifier/day, the Wolf may make an Intimidate check to demoralize all foes within earshot while in Beast or Hybrid form. All opponents must make the appropriate save or be frightened for 1d4+1 rounds.

Lycanthrope Paragon (Ex): At the fifth level, the Wolf has the opportunity to finish his inner struggle. He must undergo a ritual to purge the evil from his other half, requiring the Wolf to pass a DC 25 Will save. If he fails, the Wolf may try again one year later. If he succeeds, he becomes a Paragon of afflicted Lycanthropes, the Wolf is treated as a natural lycanthrope, no longer having to roll Control Shape checks on voluntary changes, gaining the appropriate increase in damage reduction, and gaining the ability to spread his non-evil variant of Lycanthrophy.
