Way of the Spectral Blade (5e Subclass)
Way of the Spectral Blade[edit]
Monastic Tradition
This monastic tradition was created by Githzerai monks, who developed this martial technique to hunt and brutally kill their former masters, the Mind Flayers. Merging their natural psychic abilities with their ki, they are able to create spectral swords made out of pure psychic energy. These blades can be used to ignore their enemy's protections, and experienced Spectral Blades can even steal a portion of their targets psychic potential.
- Spectral Blade
Starting at 3rd level, you gain the ability to manifest a blade of psychic energy. As a bonus action, you create an ethereal sword of energy that appears in the palm of your hand. You can’t hold anything in your hands while manifesting this sword. You can dismiss it as a bonus action.
For you, a spectral blade is a martial melee weapon with the light, finesse and versatile properties. It deals 1d8 (1d10) psychic damage on a hit.
As a bonus action, you can empower this blade, adding your martial arts die to all damage rolls with the blade until the end of your turn.
- Psychic Disruption
At 3rd level, your strikes cause a painful wave of psychic energy directed to the target's mind. Once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack from the spectral blade, you can spend 1 ki point to use your Psychic Disruption.
When you do so, until the end of your next turn, whenever this creature forces another to make an Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma saving throw, the creature can make the save at Advantage.
- Mind Stealer
Starting at 6th level, whenever you slay an enemy creature with a spectral blade attack while at 0 ki points, you immediately regain 1 ki point.
In addition, you can use your Deflect Projectiles feature to reduce psychic damage taken by you from a hostile creature. If you reduce the damage to 0, you regain 1 ki point.
- Ghost Blade
Starting at 11th level, whenever you use your bonus action to empower your spectral blade, you can make an attack with it that phases trough the target's defenses. Treat the target’s AC as 10 against this attack, regardless of the target’s actual AC.
You can use this attack once per turn.
- Devastating Blade
At 17th level, whenever a creature forces you to make an Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma saving throw, you can use your reaction to move up to your movement speed and make one weapon attack with your Spectral Blade against the creature. You make this attack immediately before making the saving throw. If the attack hits, your save automatically succeeds, in addition to the attack’s normal effects.
