Void Vessel (5e Race)

Void Vessel[edit]
“ | “Ah, there it is. I was hoping your kind could not form out of a shattered and scattered womb. Yet here you are, wearing it.”
“And you, Akhlan, in your incomplete, weakened form, may not recall what your goal is, hm?” |

Physical Description[edit]
- Born Of Stone
When a primordial essence known as Breath seeps into stone, it is slowly developed into a form- draining Breath in the process. Some are imperfect, the process of their formation interrupted, derailed or cut short by a lack of Breath- resulting in creatures of various mismatched shapes and sizes. The vessels however are among the “Carven”, those who’s formations were practically perfect- meaning their bodies were in proportion and smoothly chiselled.
The vessels, like the Carven in their entirety, are humanoid in shape- however they are not entirely human in their form. Carven will often have deviations like a lack of a face or head in general- or protrusions from parts of the body resembling hands, fingers and other body parts.
Where the vessels differ from the rest of the Carven is that their heads are replaced by a ceaseless deep void- a black hole, no larger than a head proportional to their body. While these astral anomalies lack the power of their space-based counterparts, they can absorb matter into their unending hunger all the same.
History[edit]
This species was created based on the protagonist from the game GRIME.
- The Devourer
Known by some as the Akhlan, meaning “destroyer, devourer, and the end of everything”, this race is a destructive force by nature. They are spoken of in legend due to their rarity, and are seen as bringers of destruction by those who know of them. Even without the knowledge of what they are, vessels are still an imposing figure to most- and a terror to some.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
- A Lone Wanderer
Vessels are born fully formed and alone, and wander the world unknowing of their purpose. They are drawn to their destructive tendencies, but could be steered away from that path by those surrounding them- or used as a weapon which may eventually turn on them. Vessels will act on instinct, using their unusual heads to defend themselves when their rocky exterior proves inefficient to do so.

Void Vessel Traits[edit]
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution and Strength scores each increase by 1.
Age. Being creatures of stone, vessels live indefinitely unless their body is destroyed. They are born fully mature, and do not age by usual means- the only signs of age being erosion or plant growth caused by their environment.
Alignment. A vessel at its base form is driven by nothing but its hunger for absorption, however this is not always intentional. How a vessel uses its head is often influenced by the environment it is surrounded by, meaning their values are varied. Your alignment is chaotic/neutral by default, however this may be changed depending on your history.
Size. Vessels can range in size and build depending on where and how they were formed- but they usually aren’t shorter than 5 feet, or taller than 9 feet. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Due to your density, your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Imposing Form. You have proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
Repel. As a reaction you can roll a Strength saving throw against an attack you can see- the DC being half of the damage being dealt, on a success you only take half damage and return the other half to the attacker. This can be used twice per long rest, and gain 1 extra usage at 7th, 11th, 15th and 20th level. This can reflect any damage type except for those done by magical weapons, and in the event of a ranged attack will send the projectile back at the sender.
Absorb. As an action, you are able to absorb any non-magical object smaller than 2 feet in any dimension into your head- completely obliterating it- you cannot retrieve these items by any means. You are able to control whether to pull or repel objects entering your head. Pushing a longer object into the black hole is possible as long as its width and height do not exceed 2 feet.
Once per long rest you can absorb part of a grappled living target as an action. You will need to roll a contested Strength check to determine whether it happens. On a success the person is dealt 1d12 force damage as the flesh is ripped from whatever extremity has been pushed inside- and on a failure the target is able to pull themselves away from your gravitational pull. You gain 1 extra usage at 7th, 11th, 15th and 20th level
Dormancy. When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in a state of dormant semi-consciousness, being able to dream as if you were sleeping. After resting this way, you gain the benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Light Beyond Dark. Although your head is a black hole, it bends what light is around it. In bright and dim light your head glows a soft purple, dimly lighting a 2 foot area around it. This effect also occurs in darkness if a party member is holding an item or casting a spell that produces light. If you have been in a well lit area in the past hour, the effect increases to a range of 5 feet, and can work for an hour within areas of no light.
Rocky Complection. Your body is made up of densely packed stone, the type and appearance being of your choice. You gain a +2 bonus to AC and resistance to fire and slashing damage, immunity to being poisoned, and vulnerability to bludgeoning damage.
While you are not wearing any armor, your AC equals 10 + your Constitution modifier. You cannot wear armor in the traditional sense, instead having to incorporate its mass into your body to gain its benefits- you may only do this with armor you are proficient in. When swapping armor sets you disperse the mass you had previously incorporated, shedding it to take in the new matter.
You do not need to eat or breathe, but still gain the bonuses of consumable spells and magic items (potions included) via absorption.
Languages. While this species is incapable of speech in the source material, one could argue they could control the thrumming vibrations of their astral head to formulate words. In this case, you can speak, read and write Common, speak Primordial, and read and write one other language of your choice.

Weight. Due to the material their body is made from, vessels weigh an average of 600 pounds- but this is subject to change depending on the height and type of stone you are made from.
