Vile Corrupted[edit]

Vile corrupted, also simply known as corrupted, are humanoid beings who have been transformed by the vile corruption of the Eater of Worlds into defiled, nightmarish, demonic, and ruthless beings. They are given a share of their master's power as a result of being defiled by the Corruption's unholy curse, but retain their former selves, except with more chaotic tendencies, as well as having been granted undeath. Their powers include conjuring up unholy, defiled, cursed flames that cannot be put out by water, magically attacking and repelling foes with vile thorns imbued with pure dark magic and negative energy, conjuring worms to help them, and summoning minions to fight beside them. Depending on the person, they may either use their newfound power carefully, or outright begin destroying and devouring all that stands in their path.

In appearance, the corrupted have a greyish-black body, with a purple-brown head and baleful, purplish-ebony eyes. Many hair-like tentacles cover the corrupted's body. Countless bloodshot eyes cover their front and back sides, and their gaping mouth is filled with wickedly sharp, serrated, yellowed teeth, within which vile, acidic, fiery, cursed spit brews and oozes within, ready to be discharged. Their flesh is putrid, rotten, and decaying, and is covered in cancerous lesions, which, under the right circumstances, can sometimes split off and grow into smaller, yet just as deadly, undead organisms. Deep inside their bodies, the corrupted burn with unholy green flame, which is, perhaps, the source of their insatiable appetite.

Prerequisite

The creature must be a humanoid.

Statistics[edit]

Type. The corrupted's type changes to undead.

Damage Immunities. The corrupted is immune to poison damage.

Damage Resistances. The corrupted resists fire damage.

Condition Immunities. The corrupted is immune to the charmed, exhaustion, grappled, poisoned, prone, and restrained conditions.

Skills The corrupted gains proficiency in Perception.

Alignment The corrupted's alignment is chaotic evil.

Traits[edit]

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the corrupted to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with DC 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, it drops to 1 hit points instead.

Turning Defiance. The corrupted and any undead within 30 feet of it have advantage on saving throws against effects that turn undead.

CR Calculation[edit]

  • Resistance to fire damage and immunity to poison damage.
  • Increase effective hit points based on the expected challenge rating: 1-4, 7 hp; 5-10, 14 hp; 11-16, 21 hp; 17 or higher, 28 hp (from Undead Fortitude).
