Regeneration. The vaeternian regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point and isn't in sunlight. If the vaeternian takes radiant damage this trait doesn't function at the start of the vaeternian's next turn.

Resilience. If damage reduces the vaeternian to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is from a critical hit. On a success, the vaeternian drops to 1 hit point instead.

Spider Climb. The vaeternian can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, the vaeternian has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

ACTIONS

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one willing creature, or a creature that is grappled by the vaeternian, incapacitated, or restrained. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage plus 10 (3d6) necrotic damage. The target's hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage taken, and the vaeternian regains hit points equal to that amount. The reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.

Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) slashing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 19). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the vaeternian can't use its talons on another target.

BONUS ACTIONS

Finish Him! When the vaeternian reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack on its turn, the vaeternian moves up to half its speed and makes one melee attack.

REACTIONS

Evade (3/Day). When the vaeternian takes damage from a weapon attack, it makes a Dexterity saving throw with a DC of 15 or 10 + the damage taken, whichever is higher. On a successful save, it takes no damage. On a failed save, it takes half as much damage.
