Masters of Control[edit]
A gamer is possibly the most versatile person in a world of technology, well-renowned in skills of electronics, history, and various socio-political themes that they learned from videogames. They are known sometimes in public to be streamers, other times as champions of complex strategy or amazing team players within worldwide competitions. But what would happen if you threw them into a world where their skills were applied as though games were real life? Well, you'd frankly get a generic isekai series.
Defining a Gamer[edit]
As technology makes games more widely available to people of all backgrounds, there are those who cling to the labels of what a "true" gamer is. This comes with its own connotations of defining parameters. For example, a gamer must have completed no more than at least one game a week, culminating in at 40 hours spent in total. The game must either be completed 100%, with all achievements, or be marked and set aside for later completion. When asked about the game, they must know the hacks and mechanics, as well as any ridiculous names or memes tied to the game, and the means to either explain the meme or why jokes about the game are actually untrue. They must also have an impressive set up of technology, preferably with a self-built CPU with geared performance and multiple screens. They are also active on forums for games they play, with activities like telling noobs to "git gud" and even spoiling games for others. The primary sustenance for this lifestyle consists of energy drinks and fast food to provide the sugar rush needed for their high-functioning brains to run.
Creating a Gamer[edit]
So, as everyone probably knows, gamers are almost like personalities. They are usually people who either have normal, functioning lives with a vicious side hobby, or a person who spends their entire life cooped up in some room medal-hunting and 100%-ing any game they got on a ridiculously long queue. What are your favorite game genres that you specialize in? Are you a co-op player who could compete for championships in competitions? Perhaps you are a more solitary player who just spends your days streaming your achievements over some social media platform to show off your skill or personality through games. You could also be an incredible speedrunner or even a game guru who shares unasked nuggets of wisdom. Whatever you may be, you are above that of a filthy casual, like those who just play to "have fun" or act in front of a screen (cough, vtubers).
- Quick Build
You can make a (media-stereotype) Gamer quickly by following these suggestions. First, Intelligence should be your highest ability score, followed by Charisma. You need the willpower to remain in function for long periods of grueling gaming, as well as a sharp wit for whenever you win or lose. This doesn't mean you will be the hardiest person physically, though. Second, choose the hermit background. While not all gamers are shut-ins, this background offers a great meta-game benefit for possibly knowing some plot secret, so you know you need to get that with your big gamer brain.
