Solidus[edit]

Solidus Snake is one of Big Boss' clones created from the Les Enfantes Terrible project. He is the 'balanced' clone, created as an exact copy of Big Boss.

Author Notes: I stumbled across this totally epic picture of Solidus (to come later), and that combined with my previous desire to re-create MGS characters and a few other things (namely the 'flavor is mutable' argument presented by Eiji on the variant sorcery page) led to this. I had to go Tome (although I might try one non-Tome variant aside from the absolute necessities) because I'll be dipping into Fiendish feats for Extra Arms and Pincers, which really seals the deal. I will create several versions of Solidus, to give a few options for those perhaps interested in used him, establish the earliest level the whole get-up can really be considered complete, and to explore the most combat-capable version I can create.

On second thought, the one I present here will be Fighter 6/Death Knight 1/Fire Mage 4/Conduit of the Lower Planes 3/True Fiend 4/Fiendish Brute 2. I think this gives me the version I'm happiest with, although other options include starting the previous build with Duskblade and selecting Fiend Cabalist at first level along with the Heresy sphere to spam blasphemy at +4 CL. This build can also be modified by taking a level of sword wraith paragon for the strength drain ability, which can be combined with the "weakened" aspect of blasphemy and generic touch attacks (from all four arms) to create a Strength-draining fiend (pun intended, and I apologize). I like the set up I have because although it gets into the fiendish abilities rather late, it grants access to True Fiend and Fiendish Brute via the benefits of Devil Preparation (obtained via the Death Knight's Life and Death first level ability), which means I don't have to spend a feat on Product of Infernal Dalliance. So in short, I spend two feats instead of one, but I get True Fiend and Fiendish Brute, which are otherwise unaccessible, and grant 2 extra feats in and of themselves (assuming Fiendish Brute 2 and True Fiend 4 with the same sphere selected all three times from the CotLP first and third levels and the True Fiend's fourth level). The only thing this doesn't really cover is the fire jumping/jetting around, which might be remediable by magic items. I've been looking for something akin to it, but I don't seeing anything easily attainable with detracting severely from the build. Maybe an Elemental Aura would do the trick, but that's still not quite it. Whirlwind (Combat Feat) + Conflagration (Fire Mage) seems like it might work, but I'm really not interested in taking that many levels in Fire Mage. I guess you could do Product of Infernal Dalliance with Fire Mage 10/Death Knight 1/Conduit 3/True Fiend 4/Fighter 2, but I'm really not feeling it, although it'd be a lot of damage with the option presented below (888 with a Cloak of Charisma+6).

The quickest way to get to the basic idea is, in my mind, by selecting Product of Infernal Dalliance at character creation. Then go Fire Mage 2/Conduit of the Lower Planes 4, selecting Extra Arms and Pincers at level 6. If you have Two-Weapon Fighting from being a human, a flaw, or by selecting it at third level that's about set, although the BAB growth is a bit slower compared to the other modules presented (which is a little disappointing considering the juicy combat feat benefits and the ability to use armor unimpeded that high BAB offers). It (this quick variant) really kind of sucks though (early on), until you build up your BAB and get a few choice feats. At +16 BAB with 18 Charisma (14 base, 1 investment, 3 aging), four arms, Two-Weapon Fighting, Point-Blank Shot, Blitz and another two levels in Fire Mage, in exchange for provoking an attack of opportunity (from a distance, so they might not be able to reach you anyway) you get 4d6+36 (16 PBS, 16 Blitz, 4 Cha/Fire Mage via Impress Flames) per attack within 30 feet with 12 attacks (ranged touch attacks with iteratives at only -2 thanks to Blitz). That's 600 damage per round on average, with at least 300 to even creature with fire immunity or hardness thanks to Piercing Flames. Not particularly amazing for a 20th level character or so, but this isn't really an optimization; it's meant to make Solidus. If I wanted optimization I'd get more levels of Fire Mage and another set of arms or two.

General Notes:

War Profiteer background

Flaws: Inattentive, Vulnerable. While Solidus is neither directly inattentive nor vulnerable, he is rather arrogant (he's the closest thing to homo superior that exists on Earth), which causes him to take some risks that others wouldn't (hence the -1 to AC), and being brought up as a Patriot tool has given him a pretty good mind in terms of meta-thinking, although this sometimes causes him to miss more obvious details (hence inattentive).
