Navigation Tools. Common tool (specialist), 50 gp. This set of instruments are used to accurately navigate by the stars, to survey land, to create maps, and create charts of seas and landscapes. Navigation tools generally include an astrolabe or mariner's astrolabe, a sextant, a ruler, a compass, a drawing compass, calipers, a quill, parchment, and ink.
Proficiency with these tools adds your proficiency bonus to on any ability check made to navigate or avoid becoming lost. If you have access to these tools and you can see the sky, you also have advantage on any such check.
Proficiency with and access to these tools enables you to create detailed maps and sea charts which can be easily read by others, even over large distances and areas, without needing to make an ability check. You can craft such a map as you travel in addition to engaging in other activity.
