Rules I use[edit]

Shared Storytelling[edit]

I'll often ask you to describe what your characters see, feel, or are doing, helping us create a richer and more immersive world together.

"How Do You Want To Do This?"[edit]

This isn't a mechanical rule, but for flavor. When a player lands the killing blow on an enemy (you'll know, I'll tell you after damage calculation), the DM asks them to describe how they finish it off. It adds a cinematic flair to combat.

Potion Use[edit]

Consumption (5e Variant Rule)|Measured Draught (Standard vs. Bonus Consumption)]

  • Standard Action: Drinking a potion restores the maximum possible hit points the potion can heal. (e.g., a standard healing potion restores 10 HP instead of rolling 2d4+2)
  • Bonus Action: Drink normally and roll for healing.

Critical Hit Rule[edit]

Max Damage + Roll: When a player scores a critical hit, the damage is calculated as follows:

  • Maximum Damage: The player deals the maximum possible damage for their weapon or spell, as if every damage die rolled the highest possible number. Do not roll the dice yet.
  • Bonus Damage Roll: The player then rolls the normal number of damage dice for the attack, as if it were not a critical hit.
  • Total Damage: The player adds the maximum damage (step 1) to the bonus damage roll (step 2) to determine the total damage dealt by the critical hit.

Action-Oriented Monsters[edit]

Expect monsters to have more economy or capability, like bonus actions and reactions, making them more challenging and interesting to fight.

These options are balanced to fit my games and are automatically approved for use in my games. If you have questions or feedback, feel free to bring them up, but otherwise, you’re free to use anything listed here.

Script for starting the game for oneshots/new (to me or each other) players[edit]

Respect & Comfort: We’re here to have fun—respect for each other, the game, and our time makes that possible. If something makes you uncomfortable, just give me a quick heads-up (privately or openly). No need for a long explanation—just enough so I can adjust.

Keeping the Game Flowing: I’ll do my best to keep us on track. Quick rules clarifications are fine, but deeper discussions can wait until after the session. Let’s also be mindful of spotlight time—everyone deserves a chance to shine. If you ever feel stuck, just ask!

Fun Over Perfection: I might forget a rule, make a call you don’t agree with, or adjust things on the fly. My goal is to keep the game fun and fair, not flawless. If something seems off, we’ll address it in a way that keeps things moving.
