The urutan-yensa evolved from crustaceans, and this shows in their current appearance. Their bodies are thin as if suffering from scurvy, covered in a shell-like exoskeleton with knobs at the joints. Urutan-yensa queens are taller than her subjects. All urutan-yensa have a face that resembles a mask, with two eyes and mouth-parts like that of a crab. All urutan-yensa, besides the queens, are covered in layers of clothing that obscure everything but their faces. Some believe they do this to hide their hideous bodies as a sign of lower status, while it may be due to the windy sandstorms in the environment of the Sandsea.
History[edit]
The urutan-yensa are a race of bipedal humanoids that have evolved from crustaceans. They dominate the sands of the Plains of Purple Dust and are known as the "Kings of the Sea." These lands have come to be known specifically as their territory. The sight of urutan riding their yensa steeds across the sandy expanse is iconic. Having a nomadic lifestyle since their evolution, the urutan-yensa have never become accustomed to the lifestyle of some of the more civilized races. They have been known to attack other races living in the desert and even take down larger foes like colossal tortoises.
Society[edit]
Generally found in tribes led by queens, the urutan-yensa are an incredibly territorial race that are known to fight off any outsider before they have a chance to communicate. They are a proud people who find weakness as the ultimate shame, and often see death as the only fitting punishment. They will prefer to die than ask for help. One particular instance of this was when a member of a tribe requested help from outsiders to defeat a monster that was know for massacring the urutan-yensa. When this group of outsiders defeated the beast, the single urutan-yensa was sentenced to death by his tribe's queen, having been labeled "wayward."
