Unwavering Hunter[edit]

Prerequisites[edit]

To become an Unwavering Hunter, a character must fulfill all the following criteria:

  • Base Attack Bonus: +6
  • Skills: Knowledge (appropriate to creature type) 10 ranks, Sense Motive 10 ranks, Track Feat
  • Special: Must swear a vow to destroy all creatures of a chosen kind. This vow must be in response to the character suffering a great loss at the claws of the chosen creature kind. A great loss might include the death of a loved one, the loss of all material wealth, the destruction of a prized family heirloom or something similar. However, the Knowledge skill requirement of a character who wishes to become an Unwavering Hunter depends on the creature type that he wishes to slay (see page 78 in the PHB). For example, a character who wishes to slay beholders must have at least 10 ranks of Knowledge (dungeoneering), which covers knowledge pertaining to aberrations.

Class Features[edit]

All the following are class features of the Unwavering Hunter:

Combat Sense: At 1st level, an Unwavering Hunter may designate a single opponent in combat, as long as that opponent is a Sworn Foe (see below). Against that opponent, the Hunter gains a +2 insight bonus to AC and a +2 insight bonus to attack rolls. At 5th level, these bonuses increase to +4 and +6 at 10th level.

Sworn Foe: At 1st level, the Unwavering Hunter dedicates his life to the destruction of creatures of a specific type, gaining specialized bonuses against those creatures. The Unwavering Hunter choose a monster type (such as aberration, humanoid, or undead). Against creatures of his chosen type, he gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Move Silently, Sense Motive, Spot, Survival and Tracks rolls, as well as weapon damage rolls. This bonus stacks with those from a ranger's favored enemy ability. This bonus increases to +2 at 3rd level and to +3 at fifth level.

Animosity: At 2nd level, the Unwavering Hunter can choose to focus his anger and hatred on a particular kind of creature. The Hunter chooses a specific monster kind from ammong those of his sworn foe type. For example, if an Unwavering Hunter chose vermin as his sworn foe type, he might choose spiders (or any other creature with the Vermin type) as the target of his animosity. Against this specific kind of creature, the Unwavering hunter gains an additional +3 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Move Silently, Sense Motive, Spot, Survival and Track rolls. This bonus stacks with the bonus from the Sworn Foe ability as well as any favored enemy bonuses from Ranger levels. This bonus increases to +5 at 4th level, +7 at 6th level, and +9 at 8th level.

Determination: Also at 2nd level, the Unwavering Hunter gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws against the special attacks, spells, and spell-like abilities of his sworn foe type. At 4th level this bonus increases to +4, at 6th level this bonus increases to +6, and at 8th level this increases to +8.

Nemesis Feat: At 3rd level, the Unwavering Hunter gains the Nemesis feat(BoeD) even if he does not meet all the requirements. The Unwavering Hunter senses his sworn foe, rather than a favored enemy.

Implacable Hunt Beginning at 7th level, if an Unwavering Hunter wounds a favored enemy and the favored enemy escapes, the Unwavering Hunter always knows the direction in which her enemy lies and the approximate distance between her and her enemy. This ability only works if the Unwavering Hunter and her prey are on the same plane of existence. Implacable Hunt can be used simultaneously against different targets, as long the total level (or HD) of the enemy do not exceed the total level (including previous class levels) of the Unwavering Hunter.

Faultless Hunt: At 10th level, an Unwavering Hunter who establishes an Implacable Hunt can intensify this to a Faultless Hunt, enabling him to locate his quarry even across planar boundries. Unlike an Implacable Hunt, which can affect several individuals at a time, only one Faultless Hunt against a single individual can be pursued at one time. For the Unwavering Hunter to begin a Faultless Hunt, he must abandon any Faultless Hunt that he is already conducting.
