Twilight Maiden (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Twilight Maiden[edit]
“ | Make a contract with me and I'll send you to heaven in seven minutes. Good deal right? | ” |
Physical Description[edit]
Often just lumped together with succubi, the twilight maidens are a specie of humanoids with idealistic feminine bodies and features. Like succubi, they are capable of appearing as their prey desires, to best lure them in. However, they lack horns and fiendish features, as well as the claws afforded to succubi and incubi. Twilight maidens remain youthful and objects of beauty so long as they drain the souls of the living and devour them. They do so through contracts they establish with willing creatures. Twilight maidens who have lived long, devoured lots, and grown strong are known to grow wings. Hair colors, skin, eye colors, and other minute details differ among twilight maidens, making them a varied race of master seducers.
History[edit]
It is said that the attendants of Selune were the origin of the twilight maidens. Supposedly, some of the goddess' trusted attendants were swayed by the words of evil and led stray. They allowed a breach into the house of their master. While the threat was averted, Selune cast them out in rage and took away their divine blessings of immortality. Therefore, to prolong their life, the twilight maidens are cursed to forever feed on the living and sell themselves to survive, reflecting their wanton ways in betraying their goddess. Laying with humans has sown their progeny throughout the land. Many twilight maidens are indistinguishable from normal females, and they mix thoroughly into such civilization.
Society[edit]
The twilight maidens are sort of an urban myth for the most part due to how hard it is to distinguish one from regular women. There are stories about women who pose as streetwalkers only to steal the soul of men who are too promiscuous for their own good. They are therefore sometimes central figures in fables warning against courting strange women or letting one's lust get the better of them. For the most part, twilight maidens do follow this in part as their hunting ritual. Twilight maidens live seamlessly alongside humans and thrive off of the souls who are bound them through means of seduction. However, this is a matter of survival to them more than thrill or amusement as fiends might enjoy it. Twilight maidens subsist off of humans for their own vitality and life. It is not impossible for them to live with guilt as a result. In fact, some seek repentance to break the curse of their ancestors so they may return to being divine attendants.
Twilight Maiden Names[edit]
Because they live alongside so closely to humans, names for twilight maidens are usually that of humans. Many adopt names that warm up to their prey easier. Twilight maidens, as their name implies, are solely female.

You can cast disguise self with this trait, using Charisma as your spellcasting ability for the spell. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after you finish a short or long rest. While disguised, you have advantage on any Charisma (Deception) check you make to avoid detection.

Soul Contract. As a twilight maiden, you can form a contract to claim a soul for yourself. As part of a short or long rest, you make a binding contract with a willing creature, forming a powerful bond between you both. The creature must have a soul. While this contract is active, you are aware of the contracted soul's locations at all times. This contract breaks if you or the other creature die, or if you try to make another contract before resolving a previous contract via Soul Taker. When a contract breaks, you take Xd10 psychic damage, where X is equal to your proficiency bonus.
Soul Taker. As an action, while your contracted creature via Soul Contract is within 30 feet of you, you can siphon their soul to empower yourself for 1 minute. You gain the following effects for the duration:
•All your weapon and unarmed attacks deal magical damage.
•You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
The contract creature whose soul you siphon loses hit points equal to your proficiency bonus × your Charisma modifier. They cannot regain these hit points until you spent part of a short or long rest returning their life essence to them. You can't use this trait again until you finish a short or long rest. If a creature dies as a result of this effect, your contract is resolved and they cannot be revived by anything short of wish.

Racial Feats[edit]

You can now devour the souls of the departed and gain the same benefits as if you just siphoned your contracted soul. You also learn to be efficient in ending your contract.
- As an action, you can devour the soul of a body that has died within the last 10 minutes. You gain the effects of Soul Taker for 1 minute.
- You are aware when your contracted drops to 0 hit points. If they drop to 0 hit points within 30 feet of you, you can use your reaction to devour their soul immediately. This resolves the contract and you gain the effects of Soul Taker as normal.
